I have an HK 930 twin power receiver. It's a great bit of kit 45W channel twin phono twin tape seperate tone controls for left and right channel. Bought it off ebay for not a lot about 20 years ago.

The 500C is on my list, if I can find one locally I have the 500T. To be honest, I like my HK 500X more, the plan is for a custom build pre and some monoblocks.
If you get some Dynaco Mk III, I can contribute mods for them.

Cool to know, I’m trying to find all this stuff locally for several reasons, price, shipping and actually see what I’m getting.

If you're a fan of 6CA7/EL34, you can get a Mk III (6550) and with very little effort, use the EL34... with the larger output transformer. Best of both worlds!

The EL34 was used in the earlier Mk II and if I remember right, in the later Mk IV.

Love the coathanger!

I have a Marantz 1060 integrated amp (30 w/ch) that I've had since I bought it in 1972. It always impressed me as being a warm sounding amp, and when I hooked it up a few years ago it had that same sound, it was just the house sound 50 years ago. Not bad, but newer amps have a much clearer, cleaner sound due to 50 years of improved design. Just my impression.

Thank you! My custom transversely mounted powder-coated steel rod headphone suspension apparatus has served me well since I moved into that office in 1996.

Wow, I didn't realize it was a 25 yo VINTAGE coathanger as well. Well done.

Same here. Hardly any patina on that coat hanger.

Burr Brown multibit DACs

I have grabbed Denon DVD 5000 and 9000 years ago, to use as DAC, as they have SPDIF optical and RCA in, both have Burr-Brown PCM-1704 DAC. Sounded good through modded (magnavox console derived) monoblocs, 6x 6v6 tubes each side. Unfortunately that 6v6 amps are both toasted now.

My better sounding set up was Denon DCD 3000, also using as DAC after its laser and transport no longer work and not able to rescue. However it has SPDIF in, the Burr-Brown (possibly PCM1702-J) DAC sounded smooth to my ear. Better part is it comes with XLR balance outs, feeding crown studio reference power amp. Optical out from old macbook (they no longer have in new ones) fed to that DCD. That makes some youtube sounds somewhat listenable.

Sadly all of those are in storage now.

Basically, some Denon players with Burr Brown chips and digital audio in are probably good value DACs. I am not thrilled with their transport mechanism though.

Way way too many to list. What kind of music? Speakers that shine on classical, voice, etc might not handle rock and roll so well.

Thank you!

Sure!

Frame is MDF, fronts with 3mm black acrylic.

Mid/tweeter panel is 3µm Mylar, bass is 6µm. Audiotrasformers are toroid for mid/high and oil ignition transformers for the bass. 😀
Passive filtering before the transformer setup, 5kV powersupply, auto swith on by the audio signal.

Both panels playing together (bump at 50Hz tweeked after this picture - in PreAmp)

LOL, clever!
Are the toroids off-the-shelf?
Does the mylar need to be metalized?
Curious about what you used for electrodes.

They only mess with them once! 😉
If you have some sort of cover for the panels its hard for them to get in contact with the voltage - but if they are dedicated and decide to "scratch trough", -Yes,it is a risk !

Yes, the Toroids are off-the-shelf ......80VA/each if I remember correct. I tried with what I had on shelf and it worked fine.
Better to wind a EI-core with correct ratio, I tried but for some reason got better results with the toroids => I used them!
The mylar is coated with a thin film of conductive "glue". I used a formula from a local company that restore Quad ESLs.
You can use glue with graphite, antstatic agents etc .....there are many recipes online - I went for a tested pre made solution.
If by electrodes you mean stators they are perforated steel plates that has been powder coated. Mine are on the lean side of coating thikness - there could be more paint on them but then it is a trade off for open area.
