I agree with both of these comments. If I agree to buy an item I will pay immediately. I would not personally hold a watch longer than 24hr without payment unless a meet was arranged or something similar, cash etc.

My email asked about shipping, price and included info about a few recent trades I had done. I admit I did not say I WILL TAKE IT... but asking some questions when about to sent 000's into cyberspace isn't unreasonable i.m.o.

It was the 1st one sent, 8 mins after the thread went up .... 40 minutes later im told its sold. Anyway it's not the way i'd do it... and like I said i'll change the way I approach it next time.
I agree that some sellers do "accept" offers then sell to the buyer with the highest offer. Basically an auction sale which is a bummer when you're buying. I suspect that is what happened. Happened to me too on various occasions.

I recently sold a watch and had several inquiries in a short period of time. I answer based on the order they arrive. In this case, the one potential buyer was quite interested wanted to buy it but had several questions. I answered the questions and by the time he got back with me the watch was sold. He was freaking pissed!

He was like, you knew I wanted to buy it... I was like you had questions that needed to be answered, and by the time you got back to me it was sold. Also, I was not going to tell you I had another offer and get you into a bidding war. Who has time for that on a $550 watch.

I am going to be selling several watches soon. I much prefer dealing with OF members, as it is way smooth. The problem is most of the watches I want to sell are better suited to sell on ebay or WUS.

However, I may have a lead on the vintage Blancpain FF and if that comes through, then I will also sell the straight writing, spare speedy parts and the SM300 ti MC. Those will be listed here on OF 😀.

I am sure the issue gets clouded even more when sellers list on multiple forums.

I think one factor that might have a bearing, is if the seller had had previous experiences of being messed around with potential buyers, asking tons of questions, whilst promising to buy, then ultimately not ponying up the £/€/$...

I know Smitty, is a great guy, maybe he was just a victim of other people's behaviour...

As others have said, money does speak louder than words.

But as a seller, I tend to deal with one person at a time - and let others know, as they enquire that there's one, or two, or three people ahead them.

I hit this situation with the electroquartz, with one very interested person, who asked a ton of questions, and was 10 time zones away - I told him that he had FROR whilst we agreed some details, and others who enquired after him that if the deal fell through they'd have the option to buy... I then went back afterwards to all of them, and let them know it was sold, just so no one was left hanging.

Communication is key.

@BlueBoy @tyrantlizardrex Cheers guys.

I appreciate selling isn't always easy and a lot of questions are asked. Good to hear you try and do it the way I do.

Potentially sending a large chunk of money to someone you've never met does require a few questions. As a buyer i appreciate that, so therefor answer accordingly, and in line, when selling. I also appreciate that if the buyer doesn't respond and goes cold...move on.

I work most days from a PC or smartphone.. so generally answer emails in 5-10 minutes if i am selling or buying.

I still think that trying to be fair is the best way... if that means my sales take a bit longer and i have to deal with a few more emails then so be it.

Good luck!
