I've been doing some personal research on the Omega Ranchero models. Among other sources, I've been in touch with the folks at the Omega Museum and they were kind enough to send me the attached which I believe are the exhibits which are currently on display at the museum for both the 2990 and 2996 versions of what is perhaps Omega's biggest marketing disaster. Funny how things change. One of the company's biggest flops is now a collector grail and one of the most difficult references to find in original condition. There's also some information on the more modern "Belgian" Ranchero, which was also a sales flop.

In my personal opinion, the Rancheros are among the coolest watches that Omega ever made and a great addition to a collection. Worth the hunt.

These Belgian-Variants look great (I am not a fan-boy of c-shaped watches)

Cool that they exist as hand-wound (!)

As an owner of a traditional Ranchero, the Belgian variant does absolutely nothing for me, but to each his own!

Ah, thank you, Phil. Not having that book, or the $$$$ to purchase one at the outrageous price that it sells for (when you can find it), I wouldn't have known. I appreciate the assistance.

More like El Novato Ranchero, but I'll take whatever accolades I can get. 😁
This much I know: they are rare, they are expensive and it takes forever to find one that's original. I believe that OF member Flip has catalogued most of the limited number of authentic unadulterated Rancheros that change hands around the world. My recollection is that he had somewhere between 80 and 100, but I will try to verify.

There is irony in purchasing $5k watches that are comparatively poor at keeping time compared to a $10 watch, yet balking at the "outrageous price' of a massive tome full of thousands of photos and descriptions. 😝
