38mm isn't really a common vintage size. Except for chronographs, Omega topped out around 36mm.
For new, I'd look at an Aqua Terra. For used, I'd look at some Rolex OPs.
Yes the Tudor Black Bay is beautiful watch. This gets harder by the moment.

At Chrono24 one can see multiple examples of almost any watch mentioned. Is Chrono24 taboo in the watch buying world?
Taboo, no. But the prices and market are a bit distorted due to the higher fees involved, especially compared to a forum transaction.
Op.... what's your definition of vintage please?
Op, so not necessarily vintage at all then?
Here's the answer: you haven't any real idea what you want so you're shopping on impulse. You're also gambling on the fairly low statistical possibility of one of the other members here coming up with a magic word which takes your fancy? This does not sound like a sensible way to spend $3-4k......
A nice Pie Pan Constellation and have money left for dinner and a bottle krug

Easier said than done.
That’s a horrible example. Hands are wrong, wrong, wrong. Crown is also incorrect.
Have doubts on the dial.
You should look for one like this:
