Planning on using $3-4K on next vintage watch......what should I consider......color dial
Well anyway what are some suggestions with pictures from real watch experts, please and thanks

After short thought, I guess it does not to be vintage.

Well, first of all, you should stop buying up all the schlock redials you've been purchasing. Once that stops, you'll have plenty of funds so you can get serious. ;)

Next, you have to narrow down your preference so we can help guide you. I don't know if you realize how broad of a question you're asking. That's like asking "What vehicle should I buy?" because there are thousands of options.

    Thought $3-4K was pretty narrow...
    1. Colored dial black/grey/blue
    2. No complications on dial
    3. Stainless steel band
    4. Day and date or just date
    5. Versatility wear it anytime anywhere
    6. Bigger dial 38mm at least

The couple redials I have are good with me.
Funds not a problem. Since I never wore a watch, $3-4K sounds reasonable amount to have on a wrist.
Wifey might have 30 big ones on her finger, but for me on a wrist $3-4K is my max

That tells us FA about what you’re actually looking for? Any brand in particular?
    Any size in particular?

If you do go vintage, how about a 166.073. These also came on a bracelet but look good on a mesh as well. Here's mine but it is not all original having a newer dial and hands. A top one of these with bracelet should be easily within your price range.

A sweep seconds is, strictly, a complication by the way. I know you said no other complications but, if you like a big watch, how about a Yachting? $4k might be ambitious for one of these in very good condition though. Hard to resist, in my opinion:D - I couldn't!

    Cheers, Chris

38mm isn't really a common vintage size. Except for chronographs, Omega topped out around 36mm.

For new, I'd look at an Aqua Terra. For used, I'd look at some Rolex OPs.

Plenty of good Omegas at that price point. Specially in the diver range most of them are within your budget: 166.068 poppy (grey dial) comes to mind but not everyone’s cup of tea and will set you back around 3k.

For a more classic look a Seamaster 120 166.027 should do the trick, you should be able to find a nice one for $ 2k

Just two option out of many

38mm vintage basic three hander with a colored dial....

That’s going to be very tough. Vintage 3 handers are rarely over 36.

    Isn't the SM120 a 36mm watch though?

It is, just thought the OP would like the clean design. Thanks for pointing that out.

I was going to mention the 166.024 but a decent vintage one is going to cost more than 4k. And the NOS watchco is not the same as investing in a vintage piece.
