Good afternoon!
I have recently purchased this Logines Admiral 5-star and i have some concerns regarding the font used for the word "automatic". Based on the serial number, it is a 1968 piece. All pieces i researched online, from 1968, have the cursive font for the word "automatic". All similar watches i saw with this font were from the 70's, the ones with the C case.

Also, the writing " - SWISS MADE -" is barely visibile, as it is partially covered by the lower part of the case. The caliber is the right one, 506 with quick set date, matches the model.

My concern is the dial is not the original one, for the 1968 watch, but rather a newer one, from the 70's. Please see attached photos for reference. Thank you!

Could you show more photos, including any engraving on the back, inside the back, and the movement. It's better to discuss in terms of serial numbers, because years are variable and open to interpretation. And the reference number is helpful for searching.

Also, I'm not sure which dial you are referring to for the 1968 version, your "automatic" is cursive.

I wouldn't worry about the SWISS MADE, the crystal ring is probably a replacement.

That said, if you've already done your research and you can't find any other examples of this reference with this dial, then maybe you should just return it because you're obviously not comfortable with it.

Thank you for your swift response! Here are the photos with the caliber and the back of the case. Also, i attached a photo another watch, with the font i was reffering to, the cursive one.

I believe he means such cursive Automatic
Today, an Admiral 5* cal. 506

You might want to talk to Admiral @Spruce who has several ones and might help with your analysis. He has a very similar to yours...

As much as we want to be scientific, one could argue it could have been a sample during a transaction period etc...

The little noticeable Swiss Made could be due to the angle of the picture, or the curvature of the crystal etc...

I'd rather concentrate on the rest of the dial, comparing it to similar examples to evaluate and formulate your opinion on those basis.

I'm not an expert on the model but nothing screams redial. Others might be better to assess

As @LesXL mentioned, I have a few Admiral 5 stars, all from 1969/1970

Apart from one which has 'automatic' in capital letters, the other three have it in lower case.

I have other Longines from the same period with ‘automatic' in capitals but none with automatic in cursive.

I do have two Conquest Heritages with cursive ‘automatic' but they are from 2004-2010 (and are still currently available new).

I agree with @Dan S about the crystal ring. I had that same problem with one of my Admirals but changed the ring when I had the watch serviced.

Yours looks very nice

Following on from my previous post, I’ve since done a non-exhaustive search on eBay and see that there are quite a few cursive options but most, although not all, seem to be offered by Japanese sellers so it may be that the cursive dials were, originally, primarily available in Japan

Thank you @Dan S, @LesXL and @Spruce for your time, you have been really helpful! The watch looks and works great for its age and i would've liked it no matter what, but i had to get some other opinions, to get to the bottom of this. Again, thank you!

Interesting thread. I have a few Longines and I haven't paid much attention to the typography...up to now anyhow!

The watch I posted on WRUW Today?

did come from a Japanese seller, so @Spruce may well be right that the cursive text is perhaps a Japanese variant.
