Looking at either the 3570.50 since it’s very close to the true speedmaster or the current 3861 hesalite.
Which would you choose as a first time speedmaster owner?

thank you

What is a “true” Speedmaster to you?

Plenty of options for a first time owner but I would recommend and of the professional models from any year, just depends on your personal preferences. You really can’t pick a bad one though

I own both of these. On balance I would say the 3861. Bracelet is so much better if you want to wear it on bracelet. Step dial. DON. Slightly smaller case. For me everything works just a little better overall.

However, 1861 movement is closer to the "original" and holding them side-by-side it just has a more vintage vibe. Dial seems slightly more faded or grey than the truer black of the 3861.

Pros and cons to both but as I say, on balance the 3861 edges it.

If budget is not a factor, then I would choose a 3861 over a 3570.50. IMO the stepped dial, METAS movement, and bracelet of the 3861 are superior. Further, opting for the sapphire 3861 adds an applied logo, display caseback, and polished mid links to the bracelet.

If it’s a neo-vintage vibe you’re after at an affordable price, I’d recommend the 3590.50 and 3592.50 references instead of a 3570.50. They feature the 861/863 movement, nicer bracelets (1479/812), and tritium lume (which on many examples has taken on a very pleasing patina).

Though there are multiple options, you really can’t go wrong with any of them!

3590.50 = solid case back and cal. 861
3592.50 = display case back and cal. 863 (cal. 861 with nicer finishing)

Between 3861 vs 3570.50, I'd go with a 3861. If you can find a nice 3592.50, that would be my number 1 pick.

3570.50 is easy to find. I’m guessing there were millions made. Most people seem to prefer the 3861 bracelet. I’m one of the few that don’t, and it’s pretty much the only con that would have me pick an older model over it.

If it's your first one I'd go for the 3861 for peace of mind, you can expand your horizons on the next go around.
