    Hi all

Looking to dip my toe in the water and am keen on a 14701 Seamaster advertised here in the UK.

The movement, 562, appears to match the reference etc., but there is something about the dial that is making me hesitant. Grateful for any input.

    Cheers

Dial looks original but it’s either in average condition or the lighting is very poor. The crown is a replacement but from one poor photo, the case looks like it might be fairly good.
More pictures and asking price are required for anything further

    If those lines

are on the dial you should pass in every case

Hands look corroded and not very attractive

14701 is not a rare reference so you should find a better one

Many thanks for the response - appreciated. As a noob, what do the lines on the dial indicate? I attach a few more images of the watch in question. It’s currently advertised at just under £400 on a well known auction site, which is quite attractive given the prices asked for similar aged pieces.

If they’re on the dial not the crystal (which seems to be the case) it has a huge impact on the attractiveness and value

Hi - I’m looking at up to £1000: ideally, I would like to get my hands on a 1962 piece (birth year), but anything from late 1950s to mid 60s would be great. I would definitely have been interested in the one you linked to; will have to keep my eyes on the ‘for sales’.

    Cheers

I agree with what's already been said - the dial's in bad shape and you should pass. You should be able to find an example with a good dial here on the forums or elsewhere. Good luck!

Much of the value of a vintage watch is in the dial condition. If there are significant scratches or stains this dramatically reduces both value and attractiveness/desirability
