Has anyone taken their FOIS in for service yet? Mine is a 2016 production year, #6991. Mine hasn't been a daily wearer for a couple years now, still keeps good time but we're getting into the 7th year from purchase.

Watch is seen here with a 105.003 handset and the new Ed White bracelet, so not sure if it can qualify as an "FOIS" at this point but it definitely started out life as such.

I’m in the same boat. Bought mine in 2016 as well, but have only worn it sporadically since 2019. Trying to decide if I can wait a little longer or go ahead and service it. Will probably do it next year. At least I won’t have to send it off to Omega — my local watchmaker has a parts account and will service the 1861.

What endlinks did you use with the EW bracelet?

I had to have mine serviced within the first year — it was losing 20spd. Came back running at around -1/+2 and has stayed there pretty much ever since. When I spoke to the Swatch Service they said 5 -7years from the return date was recommended.

With each new release from Omega lately I love this watch a little more….

I have mine on an Ed White 321 bracelet and have fitted an Ed White 321 bezel, a stick running seconds hand and a NOS 145 0012 caseback.

Where did you get the bezel from and if you don't mine, approximately how much was it?

Would Omega in Switzerland service that, given now it's a bit of a 'franken-watch'? I like some of the changes, but it's not a FOIS anymore.

There are no benefits to having Omega Switzerland service your Speedmaster when it's out of warranty. Unlike the 321, all the parts for the 1861 cal. movement are readily available.

The modern FOIS is a simulacrum of the true 1962 FOIS, so technically even before the mods it should not be referred to as a First Omega In Space.
What's more, the modern FOIS could have been the perfect Speedmaster but Omega fυcked it up: applied Omega logo too short, sub-dial hands not all the same, DNN bezel etc. The great thing though is that you can mod it to perfection as long as you can source the parts and a competent watchmaker willing to do the job. Killer watch once fully modded and all the mods are reversible so why not make it right ?

Completely agree. Coming from restoring and modifying vintage Porsches, it's a little strange to me all of the importance set on originality and service from Omega. I understand the importance of originality but these are all easily swapped parts that don't require any modifications. Using a Cape Cod cloth is a hell of a lot more irreversible than any of this mods.

I wouldn't trust a Porsche dealership with anything air-cooled, I'm sure more than half the techs were born after the last 993 rolled off the production line. Reading horror stories and long delays for watch services with the manufacturer, I would feel much more comfortable going to a local watchmaker whom I can directly speak with.

A couple more shots. Other than the sapphire crystal reflecting, this watch seems so photogenic.

Nice pics. Yours looks to be in great condition. May I ask what range is your number?
Mine is 125xx.

Thank you, love the bracelet! Mine is 18xx, so relatively early.

Enjoyed watching this video on the fois recently -

Thanks for this -- IDG can sometimes be a wee bit histrionic but often interesting. And always good to welcome another fan into the growing club for one of Omega's most beautiful and certainly most charming modern Speedies.

My partner, who is a lover of interesting design but not particularly of watches, has always referred to the FOIS as "the very pretty, friendly one." Perhaps she's onto something.

Thanks for sharing that video. I think what irritates some people, such as the maker of this video, is that they were hoping for a perfect replica of the CK2998 (à la Ed White) and they were disappointed when Omega didn't give it to them. When I bought mine, I didn't know much about Speedmasters so this wasn't an issue for me. I didn't really know what the FOIS was "supposed" to look like. All I know is that I liked the look of it and all the features that made it dressier and more elegant than a Speedy Pro. I also preferred sapphire crystal for the scratch resistance so this was a big plus for me. I do wonder though, what would happen if Omega brought out a "perfect" CK2998 reissue with Calibre 321. Would there be the same demand as the Ed White? (with premium pricing as well)

How much did the 145.0012 caseback lower this?

Just found this thread. If any of you guys happen to run into number 11641 let me know! It was stolen from me in Brooklyn NY in 2021. I don’t even want it back, it would just make me happy to know it somehow ended up with somebody that can appreciate it. Jealous of you all! I miss the watch very much.

Sorry to hear it was stolen from you. Even if you didn't want the watch back I doubt that the new owner will 'fess up here on this forum as that would implicate them in the handling of stolen goods. This just opens up a whole can of worms...
