Congratulations ! I am still waiting mine, it will come next week for me, I can't wait to join the club too
Just for my curiosity, no how did it get condensation if it has not been worn or put in a wet environment (pool, shower, steam bath...)?
I have no idea, maybe someone can tell me... what I see is it happens always in wintertimes: Maybe gloves, maybe temperature*shocks, maybe snow? BR Hans
Not sure whether cold would do it, unless there is already a problem with the seal. I recently took my FOIS skiing, and it performed perfectly. Temps hovered around -5 and bottomed out around -16 C with a nasty wind chill on the final day. Didn't;t notice anything untoward moving from chilly outside to warm inside, alongside pretty big swings in humidity. Does seem to warrant further checking out. Hopefully there are positive resolutions to this problems.
I’m sending my brand new one back to omega this week with same problem. Waiting on the travel pack arriving. Guessing it’s not sealed properly.
Mine spent 24 hours in the boot of my car in freezing (below -5) temperatures overnight and the face was cold and wet but the watch inside was fine without any dampness or condensation inside or below the crystal. Was very impressed.
I'm seriously tempted to pick one up - I can't really afford it, but is everyone of the general consensus that this is an investment piece after being discontinued - ie...at the very least Im not going to lose money?
No idea, but the FOIS is absolutely worth the investment on its merits alone, IMO, and I strongly suspect that it's one of those pieces that will attract interest and appreciation over the long term. Those who love it, love it a lot -- and more and more people seem to love it.
Thanks for your reply which I really appreciate! I think I'm going to go for it! My Father is hugely into astronomy - we even have a very small piece of the Apollo 13 spacecraft here (locker strap), courtesy of Florian Noller at Spaceflori + a signed Buzz Aldrin photo on the lunar surface - I've been looking at picking the right Speedmaster up for a while, and I think the fois is the one! Cheers!
Well I just ordered one from Goldsmith's UK - I'm sure it will be worth the wait! Will post pictures when it arrives!
As promised - what a lovely, classic piece, absolutely delighted with it! Interestingly also in the low 12k's with regards to number. Many thanks for the advice and good wishes - really appreciate it!
So glad I bought mine last June. I had no idea it was going to get discontinued and got a - 21 % discount. I chose it simply because I preferred the slightly dressier aesthetics of FOIS over the sportier professonial moonwatch. Mine is 14k something.
Not sure if this has been posted, but a nice "fond farewell to the FOIS" article from Monochrome: https://monochrome-watches.com/omega-speedmaster-first-omega-in-space-fois-discontinued-tribute/
I have seen a few typical modifications here, like new strap or bracelets (I have the Uncle Seiko myself) but how about open caseback? This is mine
New to this forum but better late than never as they say. Number 125XX checking in. This one is special to me because it's a 50th birthday gift from from my wife.
