Its interesting. I have had absolutely zero issues with visibility or telling time. What am I missing here? Is it under some kind of light that visibility becomes bad? For reference, my FOIS pictured in my post above.

Same here. No legibility issues for me.

In very, very dim light, it is sometimes hard to see the hands, but I can usually tilt my wrist enough to get enough reflected light to see them. It’s not something I worry that much about.

I find the FOIS regularly difficult to read, the shine of the hands combined with the sapphire crystal creates a look that obscures the hands of the watch. However this does not prevent me from enjoying the watch...the straight lugs are what does it for me

I am in the "no issues with telling time" camp. Have owned my FOIS for a year and one month now. Have had no issues whatsoever. I fly jets for a living and have to deal with glares a lot. Have had no issues I haven't had with my other watches. I mean sure reflections sometimes bother because of saphire glass vs watches with acrylic glass or hexalite, but that's no biggie. Just tilt hand a bit and voila!

I fully agree, just a slight twist of the wrist and you see the hands. Here is mine on the 60th anniversary strap...

Legibility/visibility has never been an issue for me with regards to the FOIS. Although I really liked the watch as it is, I often found it quite dull and flat. After trying different bracelets (which did little to improve it), I ended up asking an AD to swap the cristal against a plexi. It solved 100% of aesthetical issues for me. I have now a perfect 2998 for 4.0 K€.

May I ask if you used an Omega factory plexi crystal and, what was the part number.
Thanks
I believe it is #5078. Not sure 100% though.

Crazy that an AD did that for you, but it looks good.

Thanks. They were actually quite reluctant to do this job, despite I know them well, and I really had to insist. In the end, I only paid for the glass. It's a one-off. But the main message is that it can be done.

That looks great! If I am not mistaken, It looks as if your AD also installed a rehaut, ie a silverish ring going around the dial, which is true to the original ck 2998 reference. Very cool indeed.

Thanks. Actually the rehaut comes with the glass of this particular reference. Otherwise, the rehaut is smaller and black.

Hi everyone. My first post here. I just picked this up blind 4 days ago. I tried the pro but my AD didn't have the fois in stock and I knew I wanted a slightly smaller fit
. So I called and ordered it in from a nearby city without trying it on. I did my research and I'm glad I went with my decision. Initial thoughts--- I do agree that the hands aren't the easiest to see in all lighting but it's a challenge I'm ready for. The strap--I'm happy with the color but I'm a little surprised at how "dainty" it is. It thins out to I believe 16mm at the buckle and it seems very thin or ladylike to me. I'd like to hear your opinions. Other than that, I'm glad to finally be a part of the Speedy club!
BTW, for those of you wondering, my numbered edition is very close to 11,000.

Welcome to the club! You can try out a lot of straps to get a feel for what suits you best. It looks really good in NATO as well. The original strap is indeed not very wide and if you are used to bigger, non-tappering straps, it might take getting used to. I for one think it's original strap is one of the most comfiest straps around. Very soft. But anyway, it looks great on your wrist as it is too. Enjoy the watch and wear in good health 👍

The taper is what makes it look more classy/dressy and gives its vintage character. Bracelets/straps with little or no taper just looks rubbish.

I agree with you on the strap. I also think it’s a little short and could be a cm longer to make it easier to put on.
