Hey all,

I snagged this watch last week to dip my feet into automatic watches and wanted to show it off. It's a 1970 Omega Geneve 166.041, gold plated with the 563 movement.

Seems like it's in decent condition except for the quickset for the date does not work. I'll have to get it serviced because I also do not know when that was last done.

I am now looking for a C case Constellation in steel as I think of gifting this to my father once restored and if it is in good enough condition to gift. Any thoughts?

One of my favourite watch case styles. These 166.041 cases look, in my opinion, just that little bit larger and more modern on the wrist than some of the other case styles of the late 60s/early 70s.

Good idea to get it serviced. A local specialist watch repairer should cost around £150 to service it plus any parts. Fixing the quickset date should be a part of the service.

If it were mine I’d get one of those soft, impregnated gold/silver polishing cloths to remove the case tarnish and a tube of Polywatch to polish out the scratches on the crystal.

I agree, the watch is pretty modern looking for its time and I am definitely liking how small it is compared to other modern counterparts.

I'll definitely ask the watch repairer to clean the watch (no polish since it is gold plated) along with the servicing.

They seem to also go for cheaper than other similar models so I might have to snag myself a steel one if I can find one for a good price for casual wear.

Edit: I was actually looking at:

What would be a decent price offer for something like this? Any help would be much appreciated

Like these, a 552 and a 565

You'll have checked the eBay sold listings for price comparison but nice looking steel 552s and 565s, which seem to be more readily available, seem to be in the US $350-500 price range.
