Holy Crap!

What an arcane archaic tax system. How can a tax "auditor" possibly assess the value of a used movement, case and bracelet.

What do they use as their reference, or do they just pluck a figure out of their arse.

Still, I suppose it keeps people in work, thank heavens it's not like this here.

No one actually does that. And the system, while convoluted, greatly benefits those who are importing watches, as the taxes are largely trivial.

Good point.

Also anything over 100 years old enters tax free, do to so just write the date of the item in the customs description paperwork. I believe at that point no additional form need it, but not sure 100% get all the details from FedEx CS before shipment.

I have always gone under the assumption that the gold case is basically worth its weight in gold only, at best. Without the mvmt it's not worth much more.
however a much higher us duty is applied to the case, which makes no sense.

On a hypothetical 5k watch, I would assign 200 to strap, 800 to car, 4000 to mvmt.

If you do 50 50 on a gold watch the duty will increase 300-400 percent or more I'm on my iPad so it's not in front of me but if you'd like I can send you the uscbp codes. The duty on the case is huge vs the movement.
