Fake or Real, Omega Seamaster

Hi all, new to the forum and hoping to get some insights into a watch I just inherited.

To me...it feels and looks real, but I ain't no expert. It has good weight to it and the bracelet does not feel cheap. The reason I think it may be fake is that the bezel has faded. Is this a normal trait on these older watches?

I could bring it into a reputable a dealer, but that would cost me a couple hundred to verify. Don't want to go that route unless it's more likely real. If so, any good leads on where to find a replacement bezel?

This watch is battery operated. Battery is dead.

I've included some pictures.

Did some research. All signs point to yes but it's the bezel I couldn't find much info on thats throwing me off. Do these typically fade? Everything else seems legit to the eye (at least to my untrained eye looking at various vids and pics)

It's like faded blue, washed out. Rest of the typical markings look legit though. It just looks really cheap right now with this faded bezel.

Looks OK to me.

If the battery is dead you need to get it removed/replaced ASAP.

Dead batteries have a greater tendency to leak their guts out and it can cause serious damage if left long enough.

Bezels do fade from exposure to sunlight. Some find it desirable. Some call it ghosting. With Rolex it's quite desirable and often faked. Service the watch and enjoy.

Have fun

Uh oh... it's been sitting around with a dead battery for almost 10 years. Yikes.

Ghosting is a thing? Interesting.

Ghosting tells you that your tool watch was actually used out in the wild. Paint fades. Some people like it.
Get the battery changed as soon as you can.

Awesome info everyone. I'll go ahead and get it serviced and hope for the best. I wouldnt be surprised if it had a cheap battery put in. As you can see...it wasnt taken care of with all the scratches on the bezel.

Seems to me you've inherited something nice. You won't get a mortgage on it, but I like the faded bazel. Gives it character. Enjoy and commiserations I guess.

Thanks to all the info and comments. Out of curiosity (not that I'm going to sell it), how much is a time piece like this worth on the used market?

can't tell exactly from the pics if yours is the midsize or large. the quartz models are nice but don't hold much value compared to the autos. ebay completed auctions is your best bet for approximate value. the faded scratched bezels are desirable value-wise in old submariners but unfortunately you will find it's not going to be the case with that seamaster.

I believe if you have the serial number you can order an extract from the Omega archives for about $150.

I have one the same , I had the bezel replaced not so long ago and it was $400 CAD , You could try chrono24 and see what they go for , but I'd keep it and just hope the service brings it back to life , good luck !

Your watch is Seamaster Diver 300m reference number 2541.80.00, 41mm case, luminova dial.
James bond wore such model in Goldeneye movie.

Check the prices here, mind that value depends on the overall condition and box&papers.

Nice watch.
