Hello all. I purchased a watch (not paid for it yet). It’s an omega pie pan Constellation. It has caliber 563, which after looking around, didn’t really seem to match type of watch. The pic on the auction are ok but not close up and a little blurry. If anyone could take a look and let me know I would appreciate it. Ty

Welcome @jcwatchdog

if you haven’t paid for the watch and can legitimately withdraw, I would do so.
At best it’s a put together watch, with what looks like a fake dial but at the very least a very poor redial.
At worst it’s all fake.
The pics really aren’t good enough to be certain.
Any more images, such as a side shot?

You are correct that a cal 563 shouldn’t reside in a Constellation.

hope that helps.

Thanks for your help. I’ve been looking for one, and this one looked nice, but I thought I would check as this is the first older model I’d be buying; my offer was $200 less than what he was looking for ($1150) and he instantly took it. I’ll send a request to cancel the purchase. The worst that happens is I get one neg strike on eBay, which won’t harm me.

In the future I suggest you should ask before you commit to buying the watch

................and this one looked nice................................

IT LOOKED NICE????????

😕

If you think it looked nice then you have a long way to go before you buy a decent vintage Omega.

I'm sorry if I come across as a bit of a hard arse but that watch is a steaming heap of shit and just seeing those two photos would make any semi-aware buyer run for the hills.

..my offer was $200 less than what he was looking for ($1150) and he instantly took it. .

The watch is overpriced by about $1000, no wonder the seller took your offer, he was probably going like this ::psy::.

You really need to stop any thoughts of buying and do about six months of research.

Cheers
Jim

In all honesty, most of us have some stinkers in our past and it's getting much harder to find good pieces that it used to be. This mistake will teach you more than that six months of research would have on it's own 😀

Well, the condition looked nice from what I could see. The authenticity I was unsure of, with that movement, but he had a 30 day return option, so I was planning on getting it and then having it looked at. You’re right, I don’t have any knowledge of vintage watches, and the info that I’ve found helps a little, that’s what made me question this in the first place. The seller cancelled my order though without any hesitation.

As @JimInOz mentioned, that watch is pretty much a poster-child for everything to avoid in a vintage Omega. It's really bad. You're very lucky that the purchase was canceled and you were given a second chance.

It is fake, completely fake, the ref 14900 is one of the Constellation references known to have been faked, the only thing Omega about OPs watch is the movement, which isn't even correct for a Constellation.

The arrangement and size of the stars is a dead giveaway.

Compare to a genuine back.
