Via? Which purchase? And where did they get it?

Lamborghini and racing not F1 so I’ll admit it was not F1 and I was wrong.

Bendix also was first with Automotive electronic fuel injection but sold it to Bosch?

So now the subsystem is only valid if F1 “perfected” it? I’m guessing a lot of high temp rubber compounds for tires were developed for think SR-71 and think XB-70 aircraft without even a thought of F1 use, but that’s where it came from.

Like it or not, F1 is tailor made for interest by members of the military, not all, but many.

So the members of the military are only interested if there are flybys?

As a former military member, I still feel it’s propaganda that doesn’t belong at a sporting event.

I’m only interested in Energy Drink companies who have a private air-force. 😉

Did RB get the ban for thier own flybys at the RedBull Ring?

No idea what RB does or doesn't do, but since they aren't military, it's irrelevant to my concern.

I love air shows, and volunteered (in security) at a very large one here for 15 years. It was mainly military and fighter aircraft that were featured at this show. I've sat in the cockpits of F14's, F15's, F16's, been inside C5 Galaxy a Russian AN-125 (that happened to be at the airport that weekend as it was picking up a locomotive engine), in all kinds of C-130 configurations, inside all kinds of bombers from B-52's to a B1 and many more.

I have no complaints with flybys of civilian aircraft, I have no complaints with military aircraft doing displays at airshows, or at other times (national celebrations of some kind). It's the association with sporting events that I take issue with. Not just flybys of military aircraft, but other forms of propaganda before games, such as trotting out military members carrying a big flag, etc.

And as a former military member, association with commercial interests wasn't even on the radar in my time but now things have changed. It is perceived as a great marketing tool for recruiting and the association, no matter how loose, of the fast and risky life with service to your country. My country's service arms now sponsor teams in the premium touring car race series, like it or not.
At one level, is it any different to the desire to associate with the watch that went to the moon? Just as relevant, or not as you see it.
Just to add, these are ultimately political decisions made by "people" voted in by a majority of voters and we know where that leads to.

You are entitled to your view, as am I. I am free to wish that it would go away, and you are free to wish that it stays.

On the subject of the Speedmaster, the whole moon thing is not why I own one. For me it's just a very good chronograph that's easy to read and work on.

On your last comment, I have no idea what voting has to do with military displays at sporting events. That makes zero sense.

It's a free world and opinions matter. Just to clarify, I don't wish it to stay, I was outlining the current position as seen by todays military, which is different to yesterdays, where I spent my time.
Rumour has it that if the Military make controversial public decisions without or against the imprimatur of their political masters, it may be the sign of an insurrection. If you live where this happens then fine but I don't and it makes a lot of sense to me. The Government runs the country and they are always on the lookout for good PR.
Re the moon thing, I bought mine for similar reasons to you however, the moon association is very strong among a good number of owners. Not everyone is as pragmatic as us.

The military make decisions on this via policy, which is indeed set by governments and the military together. However it is unlikely that each flyby request (these are not prompted by the military) is approved by political leadership, so the connection as made is somewhat tenuous at best.

Agreed. The overarching policy makes provision for military promotions at commercial activities. Yes, the ranking officer may provide individual approvals under the umbrella of that already agreed policy. A brave officer who approves something that might make the Minister / Secretary look like a dick. Defined nicely in "Yes Minister".

I was not arguing against you. I was actually legit curious if RB falls under this ban, as they provide their own flybys.

I am also a fan of Airshows and was lucky enough to live between 2 marine airbases a few miles away from me, and missed them. Between the Helicopter base that used the largest blimp hangers ever built as their hanger, and EL Toro one of the largest at the time Marine Airbases, everything came through them. The C 5's coming in early directly over my house in the early morning hours when the air was cooler was frightening. I also got a chance to be inside not only a 124, but a 225 its bigger brother at a defunct airshow in the US that was trying to be the Paris or Farnborough Airshow of the US.

I miss the old Edwards Air shows, where every experimental was on display and you could even hang around the old Balls 8 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balls_8 . The Night Attack A-10 dual seater, the F-18 Harv, the F16 cranked arrow... all out on display.

As for military flyovers of civilian events... I am also against that.

Hope the season starts soon we can get back to talking about whether or not Sir Lewis is a pompous ass.

Honestly, after this last season, curious to see how the AlphaTauri and Mclaren boys hold up this season. I'd love to have a season where the titles are all up for grabs instead of a constant MBZ v RB for #1 and Haas consistently Mazespinning out in the rear.

Me too I think mclaren could make a good step if they get the regulation right as they were still hampered last year token wise due to the engine change and a car that was quirky and only suited one driver.

As far as Mazapin. Well I admire your optimism. 😀

Honda is all like
Hell! That’s a spontaneous change of direction for an industry that functions on long-term planning!

Do you reckon someone was just about to flick the light switch off at the Sakura plant when some breathless, suit-clad Honda exec came running across the manicured HQ lawn.
