The barbarians are at the gates. Just learned there is no Thursday practice for Monaco. It’s been moved to Friday, the Americanization of F1 is upon us. Next come the spec chassis/engines to save money.

oh! that's a surprise indeed!
On Friday Monaco has their Ascension Day & that's a big deal/event where all are supposed to participate hence Friday is a holiday for F1. this was always the case for all these years.
somehow this year it's ok to blow of the Monaco traditional Friday holiday?

edit -- read that for 2022 Monaco is going to be in-line with other F1 races since it part of a double-header this year. Usually there is a 2-wk gap before Monaco -- not this year. And, having FP1 on Fri has helped the F1 circus move from Barcelona to Monaco giving them 1 more day to get things in order. Also, read that Ascension Day is less revered by their public over time so likely to upset only a few people.

getting (more) commercialized, F1 is..........

quality & quantity seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum -- i've not seen quality with quantity (maybe Toyota?). if you want more F1 mass appeal, the quality will drop....

This was announced awhile ago. I want to say when the initial calendar was released. Monaco is also now paying F1 hosting fees like every other GP unlike before when they got a free race.

In other F1 related news how about Kimi going to NASCAR?
I think it is great, though I do not watch NASCAR

Curious to see how he does. He does not seem to fit the typical NASCAR profile! I'm sure he'll have fun doing it.
Is it only for one race or a full season?

Trackhouse Racing announced on Tuesday a program called PROJECT91, which will be a third NASCAR Cup Series car entered for international drivers from other racing disciplines who want to compete in NASCAR.
Trackhouse Racing will field the No.91 Chevrolet at least once this season, with plans to expand the program in the future. The second-year organization founded by Justin Marks and co-owned by Armando “Pitbull” Perez currently fields two full-time cars for Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain, who has won twice this season.

Sounds like just the one race for now.
But maybe this opens the door for more down the road.
I know he has dabbled in/with NASCAR in the past.

Really silly start to the race, hopefully it’ll make for an interesting race regardless.

OMG how the F1 has changed since the death of Ayrton Senna... a moment most of my generation lost interest in the sport.
In 1993 I was invited by Jaguar at the Monaco GP and talked to Belgian racing driver Jacky Ickx.
Anno 2022 Jacques "Jacky" Ickx acted a co-presentator for the F1 Monaco race and told this fact:
For ages, at the end of a F1 race, all safety personnel waved all possible flags (9 colors) to salute the drivers but anno 2022 this is no longer allowed as this might confuse & distract the professional drivers.
LOL... I never laughed so hard 😉

Now that it has been confirmed, congratulations to Checo on his first Monaco GP win. He stayed out of trouble, had a good strategy and a little luck on his side today.

I feel bad for Charles as he drove well enough to win but got screwed on the bad strategic calls.

It was good to see Mick walk away from that horrible shunt but he’s not helping the Haas budget. ::facepalm1::

Most drivers have been screwed in bad strategic calls......how about Ricciardo's disaster at Monaco in 2016 when Red Bull didn't have tires for him when he pitted and lost the race to Hamilton. At least he came back two years later to win at Monaco, a race venue that every driver wants to win at some point, it is a career event for every F1 driver.

Mick has a habit of shunting it on his own. If his last name wasn't Schumacher, he would've been dropped for the amount of money he's costing his team.

I think Danny Ric is in more danger than Mick right now… and Ferrari did run Luca Badoer once so never say never

That was a different time and era for F1. There's no way Ferrari would ever run "look how bad you are" today in an actual grand prix.
