It's actually a different track, they are using an oval outer circuit. Albon for comparison has driven the Red Bull all season and has never got close to Max.

So he has to get into a new car, with a new team, on a new track, with no testing and drive it as well as a teammate who is settled in and actually a very competent and experienced driver. That would be VERY impressive. It is a daunting prospect, so much to absorb in an impossibly short time.

If he can do it his bum will almost certainly be in a decent car next season. Career changing opportunity, so no pressure then. How would you cope?

As for conspiracy, I don't understand, what for and why?
This exactly. The Merc was designed around hamilton who likes the car a certain way, very loose in the rear, hence the long wheelbase. The Williams is a very stable car that lacks downforce grip. 2 totally different cars. Heck Bottas has even spoken out about the car as he prefers cars a different way as well and it took him time to adjust to it.

Additionally F1 has never run this track, it is about as close to an oval as f1 will ever get. Ironically it might be Williams best chance to get alot of points.

So you are already making excuses for him? I have absolutely no doubt a driver like Ricciardo or Verstappen would adapt and destroy Bottas over a race distance. He is fast over one lap, but folds when under pressure.

George Russell has tested for Mercedes.
This is the same track different configuration as last weekend. Probably very close to identical settings, it’s mostly about tire degradation and altitude, neither of which changes. Any differences in the change of configuration should equalize the difference between Bottas and Russell, they both have to learn the new configuration. You are correct that Albon has not gotten close to Verstappen and is exactly why I am saying Russell should qualify at minimum in 4th.

I doubt it, and your thoughts are not really shared by the F1 drivers who have commented on it. You cannot adapt to a completely new car in one race weekend.

It's a totally unknown configuration of the track that is more like an oval. If Russel can stay within .25 seconds of Bottas its a win for him.

Huh? This weekend is a different track configuration with lots of low speed turns. It's at the same facility with different layout.

Maybe you can explain why Mercedes would change/ develop anything at all for a race at a one off track? They probably stopped any work of any kind on this car 5 races ago. They will probably never race this configuration again. Why spend any time at all chasing setup changes? Hammy ain’t going to win.

They already said they stopped development on this year's car. That doesn't mean they won't change setup to get the most out of the car for this layout of the track. They do this because they want to WIN. That's what winners do.

Having looked at the track layout for this week end more closely, it is actually easy to learn, with only a very short section of new track. The reduction in corners should make for very close lap times all the way down the field, so any mistakes will be punished by big drops in grid position. It may be very difficult to find clear track for qualifying, timing could be critical.

With sub 60 sec lap times the race should also be quite busy, especially for the opening few laps. The battle here is definitely for Valtteri's seat and I expect him to reset and bring his A game.

It definitely makes for an interesting GP, can't wait!

George Russell will replace Hamilton at Mercedes this weekend while Jack Aitken will make his F1 debut with Williams. I'm looking forward to seeing what Russell can do with a good car.

I'm sure with a few more sessions, races and setup tweaks, Russell could win in that car but I dunno if he will just suddenly find himself upfront after getting into the Mercedes pretty much overnight.

Genuinely interested to see how Russell does. I think if he qualifies well, he might just shake things up a bit.
He is undoubtedly a talent, let's see what he can make of the opportunity.

Also, delighted to see Mick Schummacher get a spin the Haas for next year. Let's hope they can give him a reliable, well sorted car.

Considering this is the Ferrari C team and the Ferrari A team is having trouble building a well sorted car, I don't expect much from Mick other than the occasional points finish.

That's a fair point, but the Ferrari donkey has been such a, well, donkey, this year that they are certain to make a new one next year. Satellite teams are likely to be the test mules as much as possible. The likelihood is that young Mick will have at least a competitive power unit around which Haas should be able to wrap a decent car.
If reliability is in any way decent, then he should be well set.
Let's hope he is of the young gun category that gave us Max V, and we hear many more comments along the lines of 'no one told the boy you can't do that in an F1 car'. 😀

Impressive drive by Mr Russel. Another day or two of practice in the car he may have gotten the pole.

Just confirms that Mercedes' dominance comes from the team, not any one person.

Great lap from LeClerc and Russel’s performance was exemplary. It’s great to see strong new drivers coming through.
Stunning laps from Max too. Unfortunately I think Albon is about to get his cards.
A bit to close for comfort for Bottas!

Horner’s face after Albon got eliminated says it all. Idk why he keeps on giving Albon chance after chance. Albon just isn’t good enough yet and isn’t providing much to the team

Albons stuck in his head. He had a great run last year and got moved up. Started strong this year and it went sideways.

Hamilton thinks it’s due to the team... idk.
