An interesting replacement. I hope he adapts to the car and can get a good result.

Not really. He was/is part of AMG Petronas jr. driver program. And isn't Wolff like his manager or something? Either way, there are some connections there.

A lot of news this AM!
Stoked for Mick to be signing with HAAS.
Also excited to see Russell in the Merc.
Also, RG out of the hospital.

Mick Schumacher is driving for Haas in 2021!

Wonder if he races under SCH or uses his dads MSC in 2021, can’t wait to see him race but that Haas is going to be a real turd given the sick donkey in the back of it so Mazepin will likely be the only data point for comparison

Well that and assuming he doesn't just crash into everyone hah.
I mean he just has to finish consistently and he will eventually just end up at Ferrari, right? Lol.

Very excited to see Russel vs Bottas😁

Yes I am excited to see Russel in a competitive car, but it is a big ask to expect him to match Bottas in his first outing. If he can get within 0.5 in qualifying he will have performed well. It will be key to see how he races and reacts to the new pressures of a fast car.

You are right, Bottas is very strong in quali but on race day he makes mistakes too often. I hope Russel qualifies close enough so he can fight on race day😁

Gutted for Vandoorne, I wanted him to redeem himself after the Mclaren/Alonso era.

Hopefully no safety car for Russell, else he might be driving his first broken arrow instead 😉

I think Bottas has had a lot of bad luck recently that does not easily get picked up just watching the races. The steering damage he picked up in Turkey that made the car un-drivable and two punctures in Dubai made him look bad unfairly.

Having said that, you make your own luck, and when you're on top, things flow your way.

Awesome news for RUS. Do feel a bit sorry for VAN , can not be fun being passed over twice ( once with the pink Merc too, HUL drove?)as a reserve, plan B, reserve driver, shitty way to end an F1 career.

I give it until race 5 next year before ALO punts Mazepin over a wall, or VER chins him for driving like an @rse.

I'm actually a bit worried for Haas next year, having 2 rookies will they be able to develop the car quick enough? Or will Mazepin just be a massive cartoon bad guy distraction by being Mazepin.

Russell has no excuses not to be competitive. Same track, same car won the race. Do or do not, there is no try. Top 4 in qualifying at a minimum, Albon qualified 4th last weekend, and was more than a second off Hamilton’s pole time. My conspiracy brain says that Russell will suffer a DNF/puncture if he is ahead of Bottas in the race.

Haas doesn't seem like they care and just want to be a Ferrari C team it seems like.

I am so excited for George to get into that car on Friday! To be able to see what anyone else can do in that car is going to be quite the spectacle. Also, interesting to see how Bottas holds up against him..
Odds are Bottas will wipe the floor with him. It’s not enough time to get comfortable with the car. It will drive much much different from the Williams. He should gets points though.

So...

You know how this all works, at least from a drivers perspective. You have the Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, and McLaren drivers programs. Each of these starts with young kids in carts and goes through all the levels of open wheel to F1.

Most of the teams are aligned with one of the programs. Also note who the driver managers are... you might be surprised that the Mercedes program drivers are managed by Toto Wolf and include Russel and Ocon. All Red Bull drivers are managed by Helmut Marko etc.

My wife and I were going to bet on which lap Lewis was going to start complaining about his tires, but that’s off the table now🙁.

Yes I know how it works but Haas made a big deal that they aren't there to just make up the numbers and want to be competitive. This is the opposite of being competitive and making up the numbers.

He was kicking ass in F2 this year, plus he brings more money to the table. I don’t see how he is a bad choice for Haas. It makes total sense for him to be there. Alfa already confirmed drivers and is below Haas. The bigger question is what are they doing with Alfa... I figured it would be a dev team for Ferrari with Kimi one of the best dev drivers ever experimenting for Ferrari. So far that does not seem to be the case with few changes being done first to the Alfa.

Bottas is a debris magnet while Hamilton manages to avoid it. It is funny how that works.

It's actually a different track, they are using an oval outer circuit. Albon for comparison has driven the Red Bull all season and has never got close to Max.

So he has to get into a new car, with a new team, on a new track, with no testing and drive it as well as a teammate who is settled in and actually a very competent and experienced driver. That would be VERY impressive. It is a daunting prospect, so much to absorb in an impossibly short time.

If he can do it his bum will almost certainly be in a decent car next season. Career changing opportunity, so no pressure then. How would you cope?

As for conspiracy, I don't understand, what for and why?

This exactly. The Merc was designed around hamilton who likes the car a certain way, very loose in the rear, hence the long wheelbase. The Williams is a very stable car that lacks downforce grip. 2 totally different cars. Heck Bottas has even spoken out about the car as he prefers cars a different way as well and it took him time to adjust to it.

Additionally F1 has never run this track, it is about as close to an oval as f1 will ever get. Ironically it might be Williams best chance to get alot of points.
