Really interesting remarks here. Owner or shareholder of MLG is D
avide Parmegiani. This is the vintage kingpin and most well known dealer of all. It would surprise me if he want to risk his reputation on a fake watch. But on the other hand prototype always keeps the bells ringing
So you want us to ignore what our eyes and common sense tell us...
- period mismatched dial/movement/production (and most likely other parts (looks like a home-job parts bin special to my eyes, with a custom made caseback))
- a 2001 cal 861 (I beleive these stopped being produced in 1997, but then again, who can really say?)
- totally shagged dial uncommensurate with the exterior of the watch
- utterly ludicrous/unbeleivable ‘commemorative’ concept commemorating one of the biggest tragedies/conspiracy’s of this century
- prototype with a LE number
- that caseback
🤦
- ALL based on an extract that is obfuscated in poor resolution, and was done at a time where any remarks given by the watch owner were put on the extract
... and we should swallow this all because a big-cheese ‘kingpin’ in dealer circles who’s job it is to make lots of money off of watches to keep up his lavish lifestyle ‘has a reputation beyond reproach’?
I'm just trying to get some context here
😀 And don't get me wrong ... you have a fantastic nack for picking discussion worthy auction articles (I for one appreciate this, and thank you, and look forward to these controversy finds from you). And that reminds of the
Crott auction...of a parts bin watch (because that is what it was ... there are many made-up watches with that case/bezel and random dials and movements) but that
did contain a prototype Omega movement and was thus bought up by Omega and which did appear on their website, however when it did it was without the parts-bin-parts, merely a standalone movement (for obvious reasons).
To me a prototype part in a parts bin made up watch ≠ prototype watch. If I were to speculate, I would speculate that the dial could be a prototype dial (which clearly spent a lot of time external to any case, and was abused, or defective and thus did not make it into any product) and thats it. But my disclaimer to this overly long reply is that as a passionate collector/member-of-general-public/non-kingpin I have no skin in this game, my opinion is worth nothing and I
could be wrong (and am happy to be wrong).
Lastly : I would really love to see a full resolution image of the extract, as well as the movement.

Edit : another point...an extract after the year 2000? Anyone else have one?
