    Afternoon all,

I recently bought a Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich which I’ve lusted after for years. £4,300 is a lot of money to spend on a watch, but my question is How many of you actually wear your luxury timepieces on a day to day basis. I’ve noticed how paranoid I was becoming about wearing mine because of scratching, catching, damaging the watch/bracelet. BUT It’s a Keeper this one and one I’ll pass to my eldest when it’s time so my outlook has changed. I’m wearing it as my daily wear and enjoying the wrist time without being paranoid as it’s purely mindset and after all what’s a watch for.
    Interested on your thoughts??

Beautiful. I wear my pieces in rotation every day (even my Apollo 50th Anniversary). Mostly Omegas, but a Zenith and some Seikos as well. Your plan to pass to your eldest is perfectly fine...but you bought a watch, so you should wear it. When you pass it to him/her, it will have character (and memories) that you can share! Wear it in good health!

The second it left the box and the stickers were taken off, I lost most of its long term collectible value.
I’ve worn these daily for almost 20 years- in conditions that would make any collector bristle.

Wear it an enjoy, they can take the abuse.

    Everyday wear.

Bought 4/4/19 and not worn on about 10 days since then. The only reason I can see to buy a watch is to wear it and enjoy it, if you are going to treat it like ‘precious’ then you might as well put the money into a better investment than what is ultimately a mid range price/brand.

Just my thoughts, you do what is best for you and be happy - there is little of that about at the moment!

I wear all of my watches in rotation, if I find I'm not wearing one then I prefer to sell it on to someone who will.

My most expensive/prized piece is my 3592.50. And I wear it everyday.
Unless I’m snowboarding, climbing, or swimming then I have a couple g shocks for those activities and I put the speedy back on after.

I believe that your Speedmaster will have more emotional value to the child that will eventually inherit it if it has substantial evidence of your life recorded on its surface -- the dings, scratches, swirls etc.

I'm not a collector, so if I own it, I'll wear it.

What you are most likely paranoid about is the first scrape, scratch or ding.
Once you get the first one out of the way, you definitely start to care less hah.

Not everyone treasures something all beat up.

However, being seen on the wrist every day....

Thirty years old this year. Has had maybe one year of wear during those 30 years! It’s okay, but I have so many other watches that I prefer

Hi and congrats on the Speedmaster!

I just got a new Speedy myself a couple weeks ago after having worn the same old Seamaster 300M daily for over 20 years.

I think it took about two days to put the first small scratch on the hesalite and just a few hours to scratch up the clasp on the bracelet from wearing it while typing at my desk.

I just love wearing my watch every day though.

    Best,
    Frank

Clear Rubbermaid desk protector. Those plastic desktops are really damaging to stainless steel.

I use something like this at work- not to protect my clasps (an added benefit) but to elevate and cushion my wrists. The bracelet clanking on the desk was also annoying.

I definetly wear it every day. One of my main watches currently is a 18k vintage chronograph with hollow lugs, it's still in good shape as it was almost worn the past 70 years. Still, I wear it a few days a week in rotation with other watches. What is the point of having one if you're not going to wear it?
I wouldn't wear it when it's hot due to water damage, but with a modern speedmaster like yours it shouldn't be a problem. Just wear your watch! Speedmasters still look great after 50 years so some scratches are fine.

Both really. As a collector who has more watches then my wife will ever know and who has been collecting for decades, there are watches I wear in a regular rotation and then there are those that I seldom wear for a variety of reasons. The ones I seldom wear I think of as works of art and I enjoy the pride of ownership.

I am enthusiast, not a collector, and I have work and casual rotations for my watches. I save my vintage Polerouter for dressiest occasions, but pretty much everything else is fair game. That includes a vintage Constellation in great condition that I wear regularly with a suit for work.

I recently bought a FOIS as my first and only modern luxury watch and, although it looks beautiful now, I’ve already dinked it in a couple of places and I bought it to wear. When I eventually pass it on, I want it to show that it’s been worn and loved. I’m far too clumsy to be able to baby my watches and they bring me a lot of pleasure.

A Speedy makes a great daily wearer and I say wear it and enjoy it! It’s one of the most iconic timepieces there is and a lovely thing to have on your wrist.

The first scratch always hurts, but over time they do take on a lovely patina that speaks to their life.

I don't have too many higher priced pieces, but I just bought the new Speedmaster a month ago and I have been wearing it daily. I'm not so concerned about dinging it (in fact I scratched the Hesalite within 5 minutes of being inside my house on day of purchase - banged it on the wall by mistake) but I am going to greater lengths than I usually do to keep the bracelet and case scratch free. I know it's inevitable that it will get scratched, but just trying to preserve the newness as long as I can.

That being said, none of this would deter me from wearing it daily. Same goes for any other watch I may purchase in the future. Waiting on the Rolex Explorer currently, which may or may not unseat the Speedmaster as my daily... I like the Speedmaster this much...but I would not hesitate to wear either as daily or semi daily pieces if they are competing for wrist time.

I am not a collector. I like to wear my watches, this is what makes me happy. I am not worried about scratches, these will add to the story of the watch over time and will make it look even better imho. Wearing and caring. If you are too scared to wear it and being paranoid all the time, it most likely kills all the fun... Personally I think a Speedmaster is a great every day option!
