One of my favorites, and a great value among 60's divers. Everything in-house, perfect size, muscular lyre lugs, crystal with logo, the most comfortable Gay Freres bracelet I've ever worn... and that crispy bit of gold on the back😎

as I said earlier, there's another fantastic example on the bay right now going for top dollar. box included. nice watch.
in the long amount of time I have been loving eternas, the needle on value has moved. not as much as say...longines or such. ulackfocus and I used to argue on another board fairly often about which of the two were a better vintage value- a truly silly thing to argue about. but the eterna brand will probably remain a good value as it's current iteration has done little to make it much a name amongst current collectors. and yet, again, the needle has moved.
first generation konitkis in nice shape have risen 3 fold since I've been paying attention. super kontikis, I think, were always a bit a niche with dive collectors, but 4k to 5k isn't unreasonable now. especially for the last few beauties (mine excluded) posted in this thread!
excellent 852s and the majateks are rising. and anything with military provenance, of course.
but you still acquire a sublime and truly excellent centenaire for less than an omega bracelet. and the chronometers are still far less expensive than any of eternas contemporaries of the 50s and 60s. still great bargains out there.

Eterna made great watches, and it is a tremendously undervalued brand, no doubt. I love the patina on your Centenaire! I recently purchased a very nice Eterna-matic on eBay for $200 (unpolished, perfect brushed starburst dial and hands). I think the only other vintage brand that is similarly undervalued for such high quality might be Certina.
I would caution the potential SK buyers reading this post not to get suckered in by the outrageous asking prices from dealers. Unfortunately, you have to be patient to wait for a no-reserve auction or a fairly priced piece, but the real market price for a decent SK is nowhere near $4k-$5k IMHO. I bought mine last November for $1,800 on eBay. It doesn't have a bracelet, but it is an honest, appealing, all-original example with minimal polishing (if any), and the less-common no-decompression-limit bezel. One would have to pay extra for a pristine piece like @MMMD's, of course. Yes, prices may have gone up since November, and a bracelet is valuable, but still ... the asking price for the example on eBay is just outrageous. The generic box adds no value, and the crystal is not original.

but I would offer the thought that you got a wonderful bargain on an excellent example, and it's quite possible that such a deal would be very difficult to find again. I hunted for a year before I found my beat up example.
and yes, the ebay SK is high. but the OP was looking at spending that amount for a brutal re-dial, so he's willing to drop that amount. frankly, if I had the funds, so would I.
and I would also posit that given the current prices of vintage submariners and 300s, the SP line should be more expensive than you or I bought into.

Agreed, if you're going to over-pay, at least get a good watch! 😀
I've done that a few times when I saw a watch I really loved, and I didn't really regret it afterwards. Over time, you forget the price you paid, but the enjoyment of the watch remains.

I take this as high praise from someone who values watches , & just confirms my thought that eternas are a seriously under valued brand that's starting to take off .

Totally agree. My watchmaker didn't offer to buy this one, but he gratuitously mentioned how impressed he was by the quality.

·One of my favorite watches is an Eterna-Matic 3000. It keeps excellent time and the quality is superb. I just bought a new KonTiki and so far it's impressing me too.

·Has anybody tried to tighten the bezel insert before? I find mine quite loose and would like to do something ... however i read somewhere the Eterna SK ones were quite different from Rolex so not quite how to proceed to be honest 😉
