have the chance to jump on this. Going for 3.8k euros. Thoughts? thought the minute hand might look relumed. case is slightly polished. Date window doesn't seem to have the painted square around it. "Super Kontiki" looks to be repainted, different font... or is there a variation as such? Tan
Looks pretty good to me but I think 3.8k USD is better than Euros. I thought I saw one on ebay not too long ago.
I actually purchased it at 2.8k euros but I'm thinking of canceling cause the font "super kontiki" looks redialed/repainted to me. What do u think?
Definitely a re-dial, sorry to say. All the fonts are wrong, and there's an incorrect hyphen between Super and KonTiki. Here is your dial compared with two correct dials:
Hi The hyphen isn't incorrect to me, depends on production years but indeed the font is too bold to be original. I also find the logo too large - are the dots encrusted or painted?
sadly, yes. a poor redial. there is a lovely example on ebay right now in beautiful condition, although at the higher end of the price point for these. i'm wearing mine today which has been beaten half to death.
I thought i'd point something else out for anyone who cares about this stuff. that's not just a redial. that's not an eterna dial at all. eterna dials from this era will always have the ball-bearing logo in relief. they are always physically raised or punched onto the dial- never merely painted on as this one is.
thanks samthebutcher Now... what are my chance of finding an original Eterna crown? i have a signed one 6.5mm diameter but too thick and also prob a tad too small (original are 7mm?)
crown for...a vintage super kontiki? not good, i'd think. mine looks to be 7mm, but my eyes are failing. you should post yours so we can have a look.
Here is mine, dial nicely relumed but the crown i found is slightly too small and defo too fat vs domed original ones...
As you probably know, not all Super Kontiki (or Kontiki) crowns were signed. So don't automatically start looking for a different crown just because the one on your watch is lacking 5 dots.
it's a newer eterna crown all right. I can't really say how hard it'll be to find the correct one. I've never looked. but it's a nice example. the bezel is in good shape! mine looks like crap. but I guess it's honest wear.
Thanks guys, I like also the job but always wondered if you could relume and still apply the numeral? Never come across that as far as I remember
