I wonder how many buyers who would pay 80k for an Omega Ultraman would not be members of this forum and would not bother to read this thread???

Many.

With pricing as it now seems to stand for some watches, it’s not collectors buying watches, but investors.

Watches as an asset class... if there wasn’t a bubble before, there will be soon.

That's correct.

And why do people pay more than $400K for a Speedmaster?

It's the rarity that makes the difference.

Just as George Leigh Mallory said: 'Because it's there'. (meaning the mountain)

The huge joke of this to the wider world, is that it makes no difference at all.

It’s an orange hand.

Paying multiples of the price of the same reference watch without the orange hand is quite frankly insane.

But you can say that about anything. Red Subs, Meters First, DONs, Inverted Jenny, blue Snaggletooth....

All minutiae to normal people but dog whistles to collectors. You think the ultraman is dumb. We get it.

It’s not just because of the orange hand. It’s because it’s a documented Ultraman. If you put a real ultraman orange chrono on another watch it doesn’t magically become a $30000 watch without the correct reference, extract etc.

Yes. That's exactly 'because it's there'.

I guess I hate homework.
ok short summary

special red hand
different dial
very narrow serial number range
lume color identical in nearly all known

so this 4 point have to match to be accepted as a original untouched one

True, but watches, like other objects, give off an immediate aesthetic impact. And this model, regarding that quality, is lacking. For me.

It's ok, but I don't think so.

I was wondering over the years what people did with their watches that an orange sweep second had been mounted.

Now I know...

sure if u like it or not is a very personal thing ... i was just talking facts

i really like it much and the rarity makes it desirable for collectors, you can compre it to soleil dials and the early racing dials ...

Wow, this is a stunner. I love these special „editions“! And I love this orange hand!!

But please keep this beauty here in the forum-community.
Post it here and I am sure ( and I know by myself) that you will find someone who is willing and able to make a nice deal with you.
Such a watch has to stay in the speedy-familiy!
