Did anybody see this on eBay this week? Did I miss something. Sold the 9k USD. Hands were incorrect but original hands were present. I figured it would get snatched up right away but it lingered for several days. Just curious. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/283702948097 Did anyone here snag this? pics
Saw this one as well. Dial is a pass for most people I guess. "The original dial has original tritium lume at the 2, and 9-11 indices and has been relumed at noon, 1, and 3-8 indices."
In his day, he was right...but that was with much less information that is available today. If Chuck were around today, there is no question he would be in the forefront of vintage watch research. He left us too soon
I've always wondered the same. moribund movement and basically looks like just a slightly larger version of some reduced models, albeit with an additional complication at 12:00. I guess low production/sales/demand=special.
I think the watch was made special by the fact that it is relatively uncommon and in the days when little information was available, Chuck Maddox wrote quite a bit about it and brought it to the attention of the collector community. You could ask yourself if that is enough to make it special and justify the price. Same thing can be asked of people who are willing to pay a premium for a Speedmaster with an orange hand..... To each his own...
It was more regarding the OP watch I was thinking, not Chuck's epic and impressive pre-Internet research. You only have to pop the back on a so-called grail to tell you all you need. Inside is part Swatch, part John Deere. If it weren't for his epic search I doubt Chuck would have been all that impressed had it been readily available. "It is better to travel hopefully than to arrive"
The OP watch was Chuck's Holly Grail I have mine. You can have yours, too. Chuck also called it his Holy Grail as he couldn't find one. This whole Holy Grail reaction does remind me a bit of The Monty Python unwilling messiah. Skip to 1:20 and think watch collectors
