I just saw this thread. Mr. Menta watches, did you shtup some dudes wife? The first entries looked like a guy with an axe to grind attacking a watch that appears to be fine. After reading the entire thread, he definitely had an axe to grind. Has anyone seen or heard of quality Chinese repros of the 861 or 1861? I have never seen anything of the sort, but after seeing amazing fake Rolex watches with movements that appear legit, nothing surprises me.

It appears mr menta is a family man. Let’s not get him trouble. 😀

I see it as just someone who thought he saw fake but thought wrong.

Lol! And my wife is Russian, and they tend to be the jealous-type 😀

but you hit the nail on the head - the guy just got upset that he was wrong, and kept arguing with me back and forth. Nothing more. I have a saying: “if the watch is bad, don’t make them sad”. There are plenty of legitimately fake watches for sale on eBay that i see every day, but I don’t message the seller to tell them because it usually serves no purpose, and they get upset and shoot the messenger. Now if someone asks me my opinion, that’s a different story. This guy was just clearly trying to flex his “knowledge” and got caught. I even told him “your ego is getting the better of you here...”

final note - very ironic that he called the watch fake, as i found his IG page, and it’s 165k of fake followers!

Where's that little emoticon GIF with the frowny face shaking his head in disgust and sadness?

I'm glad we got that cleared-up. One hopes that the OP posted (numerous times) with the intent of being helpful, but in hindsight, he was bored on a Saturday morning and had nothing better to do than display his ignorance.

The forum gives us a "LIKE" button. I wonder what would happen if we had a "DISLIKE" button?

Thanks brother! I’m certainly no expert on modern speedies; as we both know, the majority of my knowledge is in vintage. That being said, I’ve sold my fair share of these. This clown has been bugging me all day over this. Even after I explained to him that a) my new photos sucked (my employee was experimenting with a new lightbox. Obviously a lot of tinkering still to be done) and the pics were overexposed (no photoshop), hence why the caseback may have looked strange, b) all he had to do was go on Omega’s own site to understand he was wrong. Then he tried to educate me on 17 vs 18 jewel movements, my watch has a clone movement, etc. No less than three times, I sent him a link to Omega’s own website, showing the same caseback, movement, description of 18 jewel, etc. That wasn’t good enough. He told me to take it to omega...which I did! They confirmed on the spot that the watch was good in their records. Of course, after I sent him that, he said that wasn’t enough (even though that’s what he told me to do himself!), and his “omega Watchmakers” looked at it and said the movement was fake (to which I sent a side-by-side from the omega website press photo, showing same finishing, stamping, jewels, etc). Anyhoo, the watch came from a well-known Japanese wholesaler of primarily omega watches (and before them, a Tokyo AD), of very well repute, and the watch is without question (for me at least). Thanks all for helping to set the record straight. If you want to read some of the shenanigans I had to deal with today, head over to my IG story (@mentawatches) for a fun read. This as*****e wasted a solid afternoon of my life and time with my kids, as I was so worried there was a small chance he was right, I dropped my kids off from the park and ran over to my local boutique to be sure. Alls well that ends well i suppose.

Better safe I guess, but what a waste.

Fakers have yet to perfect the Speedmaster moonwatch. They get the subdial placement wrong coz of the different chronograph movement they're using. So it can't be avoided. As a result, the subdials are all too far apart on the fakes.

And yes, the one the OP linked to at ebay is real.

There are fakes with the correct spacing of the sub-dials, so I would not consider this spacing as a 100% guarantee by any means...

These fakes usually use a Lemania movement from another brand in them...example here from a few years ago...

I was a hiring manager for 20yrs in the corporate world. In HR, I was told jokingly that 10% of employees take 90% of your time, except that's not a joke. Now that I run my own business, I found early the same rule applied to customers, 10% of my customers were taking 90% of my time. So I had to remember back to my Marketing 101 class in college. You don't want every customer.

Now if some asshat becomes a problem because of his ego, I politely and charmingly explain I do not have the right product for them, refund them completely, and offer that they should feel welcome to enjoy the great products of my associates (ie competitors).

Strangely enough, about half of those asshats stay with me, they just don't complain anymore, which is fine with me.

Warranty card 2018, Non raised logo caseback in the middle, 18 Jewel movement should have an 1861 17 jewel movement in a 2018 speedy. Known swiss Fake serial.
Good eyes.

Good eyes.
Anyone want to bet this is a scammer account building up posts for the Sales section?

The 1861 movement has 18 jewels, not 17. Delryn brake looks correct, caseback may be a poor photo. Not enough to distinguish from those points. I'm not aware of a "known" fake serial number.

It doesn't matter anymore, folks, it's a moot point. The watch was sold three days ago for $3,100. .

I know this thread should come to rest and all has been said. The saddest thing is, that the final price was obviously influenced by this discussion...

But did anyone notice that the "SWISS MADE" on current dials looks different from that on the official OMEGA website? I'm not sure if even the outer scale has been modified, it appears slightly smaller on the current version.

If I was to judge by these pictures and would take the OMEGA standard as given, I had a problem.

Current:

Thanks in advance for putting me straight...

Not gonna lie, my neurotic ass was comparing my speedy with every single photo in that post 🤔 this is the type of content I come here for

I'm in no way experienced but maybe it's because of the angle or maybe a different crystal? I know the sapphire crystal tends to have a ring that might cover a part of the "swiss made" part.

No, it's not caused by any destraction. It's just different.
