Early 60’s Seamaster?

Hi all,

Took a leap of faith and bought a watch without doing all of my research.

Am hopeful some of the masterminds can help me learn more about this watch.

It looks like an early 60’s Seamaster (Deville?), and has a Pontiac Automotive logo on dial. I assumed it was given as a gift for selling cars.

Issue is that I think Pontiac retired this logo in 57. It’s a front loading watch, so unfortunately I don’t feel comfortable opening it for movement serial number. It’s keeping great time... also here’s some general info from original listing:

Movement: Omega Cal.550 Automatic, 17 Jewels

Markings to Inside: Omega Watch Co. LL 6287-1, Ross, 1235654

Ended up at 650, runs like a champ however has a crystal crack. Any idea what year?

Well you might struggle for a conventional case number since that is a USA made Ross cased model using a US specific 17 jewel movement. Some had the smaller 570 by the way, others the date variant 563. I believe it would be described as a Ross LL6287. A search on Omega LL6287 gets many similar looking hits, think of it as a domestic cased SMDV. As you say there may be a discrepancy with the logo since that model can't really be any earlier than around 1960 with that movement. If you had the serial number on the movement we could give a better estimation of date but my gut feeling guess is circa 1963-65.

Don't base the date of the watch on the Pontiac logo at all. They would have used that or the Pontiac arrowhead logo. The Chief Pontiac figure was used through the 1970 model year as the high beam headlight indicator on the full size models.

true that. we used to have a touring drag racing team running mountain motors and in the 90's the hot setup was using GM's specialty competition-use-only aluminum "Big Chief" Pontiac heads, with that same logo.

Too bad the presentation date was not included on the case back. If this was a presentation watch, say, for years of service, the choice was made to use the logo the recipient was most familiar with.

That 19mm strap is the wrong size, jammed in there pretty tight. It's either 18mm or 11/16th. You'll have to measure to see which.
