DRSD a 20 year wait

20 years ago, I sold my DRSD to make ends meet while in grad school. I did manage to keep my Red Sub (still have it), which helped make all those top ramen dinners tolerable. Had intended to pick up another, but never did till now. It is not likely the one that paid the bills 20 years ago, but it still feels like a reunion with an old friend.

Hi Alf,
A lovely piece .
Looks like an unchipped mk3 dial ?
These are very hard to find in this condition.
Always sad when you have let something go and spend years to reclaim its equivalent. I am sure this gives you great satisfaction , well done sir.
My mk3 says "hello ".

That's awesome that you got it back, even if it is not the exact same one. Congrats!

20 years appears to be about the wait time for a modern Rolex from an AD, so not bad!

Congrats. I know what it’s like to sell something to pay the bills and regret it years after when your flush again- did that with a ‘73 BMW 3.0cs.... I think of that car at least a couple times a week.

And I still love Ramen despite it being a staple in my diet through college, I got very creative with it. My current version uses real chicken stock (better than bullion) Chinese 5 spice, red miso, soy, mushrooms, baby Bokchoi, rice noodles, snow peas, scallions, shredded carrot and whatever protein I have on hand- but there was something special about that powdered Oriental flavor pack.

73 3.0cs, such a beautiful car. It is worth the ramen, especially your version of it.

I sold mine for $5k, the going rate in the late 90s. Still remember standing in my room looking at it for one last time before packing. You must have been in school in the early '00s @ $8k.

Bought my 16750 for $2k in '02 and the market had been flat for years. That is what these things SHOULD cost.

Odd that on the diving extension link they misspelled "patented" while it is spelled correctly on the clasp...

Good eye! That was one of the few Rolex mistakes, there was a small batch of them from the early 70s that they did not run a spell check on 😉

"Spell Check" for Rolex back then was a guy named Dieter that took an extension class on English as a second language....he dropped out half way into the second week, he was a little on the spectrum but hey- he wasn't actually making watches so let's put him in the front office doing some clerical stuff....what could he actually mess up :whipped:
