DON or not DON, that is the question

I was just perusing the bay and came across the following listing

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1968-Ome...465544?hash=item2889ac5988:g:JfsAAOSw25Vd3l8s

Immediately I thought, that looks like a mint DON. Compared to my own DON it looks very neat, none of the numbers touch the outside edge and I’m not sure if I can see a serif on the font. I’m guessing there is a huge variation in these, but can you get one this consistent?

📖 the Moonwatch Only book can be useful for this kind of request...

Very true, unfortunately my copy is 3.5k miles away at the moment.

Thats a fake don.

That was my feeling. It won’t be long until these are spot on 🙁 perhaps some are already. Be vigilant guys!

The font looks sans serif
The font also looks a little heavy
I’ve not seen a DON with that much room (black area) to either side of the numbers
There is a very similar (badly aged) custom/new DON available on eBay
It looks more like DNN with the dot moved

I’m sure others here can spot many more issues

For posterity, here's the eBay watch:

@Spacefruit's thread on https://omegaforums.net/threads/antiquorum-fake-bezel-aq-do-the-right-thing-good-for-them.90477/ has a nice side/side comparison of a different couple of fakes, and the real thing.

Looking at the eBay watch above, the spacing of the dots and the numbers is off in a few places - look at the 5 in 150 for example - here's how it should look:

...and the relative weight of the dots and numbers is too much as well, I think. It's a bit scary how convincing these things look until you start going over them with a fine tooth comb.

Numbers too heavy. Always look for the serif in the center of the 3. It's missing here. Agree with all above. Original DONs the lettering is always very sharp and the serifs present if subtle.

Another thing. If the watch has just been serviced why is the adjustable regulator of the movement not in the center ? 🙄

Because it's been "adjusted" 😁 I guess its the lazy watchmakers poising "tool"

Not DON as one would know and expect as genuine.
