Hands - to paint or not to paint, that is the question!

So I have bit of a dilemma, I have a 145.022-71T step dial with nice lume colour that I purchased this week (please excuse the service bezel!).
The problem is the base of the hands has crumbling paint, this week it is going off for an independent watch service with a known watch tech, he has done some good restoration work in the past so I dont question his ability.

I'm thinking, is it worth getting the base of these hands painted to match the rest while at service or would you leave as is, if left more paint could flake off but of course be original.

    What would you do??

I would have them repainted or at least stabilized the remaining paint. Safety for the movement first.

    kind regards Max

I would leave them as is, just stabilize the flaking.

Okay great, so stabilizing the paint would probabley mean the use of some kind of lacquer or thinned adhesive?
