….. walk past a watch shop/boutique (in my case, Longines) and think, 'Oh, I’ve got one of those at home - I ought to dig it out and give it a wear?

“Shop your collection” is the mantra that keeps my cash in the bank these days.

I think I swapped my cash for cheap watches when I switched banks.

I also decided to limit things to a few brands Omega, Heuer, Tissot,Seiko and the A Schild generics. And of course the chronographs. Took a while to get rid of the Bulovas. Longenes is the boarder case. My uncle left me his nice example. I gave it to his grandson. Every now and then I find a Longines movement. Most are too far gone to do anything with other than to use as an art project.

Corner cases are the tricky ones. Baylor, Helbros, Hevetia, Enicar, Wakmann what may or may not use an A Schild or Landeron movement.

Not sure where this puts the Bettlach, Rhonda and Baumgartner novelty costume watches though.

It is probably a good thing that apart from the first four brands noted. The rest no longer have new production or shops.

It can be difficult to find parts for old Longines
