Hi,
I am new to the forum. Thanks for adding me.
I am located in France and looking to buy a vintage Seamaster 30.
I came across this one which shows dirty (rusty?) mechanism. Can you guys have a look and let me know if it should be an absolute No, or if I can proceed with the buying?
Cheers!

There is some discoloration, but it's hard for me to tell from that one photo and no other information whether it is serious corrosion, superficial discoloration, or just dirt. Can you please give more information. Is the watch running? What is the condition of the dial and case? Any signs of water intrusion? In any case, the movement can certainly be repaired, but it depends on the price, your access to a good watchmaker, etc.

Thanks Dan S.
The watch is located in Italy, I cannot see it in real before buying it unfortunately. The seller says it runs perfectly and was serviced 2 years ago. I do prefer buying a watch that is in bad shape and looks authentic than a shiny one which may have been touched up. I am not really anxious about the cosmetic state, I would just like to be sure it is going to function properly ;-)
I enclose a pic of the dial.

The water damage on the dial, especially on the right side, suggests moisture ingress through the crown to me. This, combined with the condition of the movement would be a dealbreaker for me. I would not consider buying this watch TBH. It's not appealing, and it could require significant work.

But of course the price have to be considered..for a low price it's not a very bad deal.

So, what enjoyment would be a watch with oxydixed/rusty movement, dial damaged by humidity. Enjoyment only for the seller.

Also, you say you prefer an authentic watch in bad shape to one that is shiny but may have been touched up.
Whilst I agree, you don’t have to settle for a watch either a poor dial. With patience it’s perfectly possible to find completely original, unmolested watches in beautiful condition.

For sure it can happen if one bought from our own sales section.

Agreed for everything said above. I looked up the sales section, but no Seamaster 30 (as it is that particular model I am after).
