This is about as close as I'm going to get to a wristwatch with flashing lights

most impressive...though surely that ferris wheel looks a bit big to be considered wearable tech?

Ok! Here's the video, as requested. Sorry for the wait...
Thx for posting @oldskool 馃憤. Does look quite discreet. I have to say though it does look a bit odd with a vintage watch馃...suppose it's a question of getting used to it.

I think it would look better with one of these (courtesy Monochrome watches):

Cheers.

Agreed @Riviera Paradise Although, because it's so discreet you can't really tell it's underneath any watch. It's good for any, but definitely would look better on a sportier timepiece.

It interesting that this thread has popped up now.

I'm on an apple forum that discisses all things Apple ( not the fruit)and there's a thread going long over there about Apple Watch wearers who no longer wear the expensive swiss watches

Several things have come to light:

-The majority of folk think and expensive swiss watch = TAG & Rolex

-Spending more than several hundred dollars is not a concept they get

-Many have abandoned their Rolexes

-The vast majority do not understand the mechanical watch proposition of value at all

This all points to some real work needed and opportunities for the luxury market to, well market to these new potential customers.

Interesting, but do you ever feel any discomfort on the wrist? What information does it provide? Thanks for the video by the way.馃憤

A testament to their fantastic marketing. My wife's group of girlfriends all have either a lady's DateJust or Aquaracer. The only one who didn't had a mid-sized automatic Constellation...... which she eventually sold and got a DJ to join the flock. I'm not saying men aren't influenced by advertising, but women are MUCH more influenced by brand name.

-Many have abandoned their Rolexes

Because they aren't the latest status symbol. Kudos to Apple for breaking in to the stratosphere usually occupied by the companies regarded as "the best".

Maybe the next Speedmaster will be able to prick your skin, draw some blood, test it for full cholesterol data and be able to check your BP.

Yeah, my brainwashing starting with TGV, Federico, and Hodinkee YouTube videos about the Speedmaster. Also, I thought this forum was a Speedmaster (at heart) forum. Finally, you're approach is much stronger than the enablers who have gotten me hooked on this watch. I'm thinking you just might be a Speedmaster lover (at heart) 馃槈馃榾

Watch this clip, you will absolutely love it, I promise...

Not much else to post in since the invasion happened.

In particular when you don't start new non-Speedmaster threads...

Technology can be great if you learn to embrace it.

As someone who has worked in the technology sector for the last 10 years, technology for technology's sake is pointless.

The biggest failing of smart watches is that they don't add enough/any benefit for their cost (not just financial).

I spend more time attached to tech than is healthy, and having another device gathering data on/for me, or letting me know that something that really doesn't matter is happening NOW and must be responded to NOW isn't a benefit.

A non-smart watch... well it tells the time, which is useful, but not at the cost of interrupting conversations/life events, which is even more useful.

You know who smart watches are for?

People who think that whoever they're stood in front of talking to, is not as important as the people who aren't there. but might want to contact them on their device.

There's a name for people like that, but it's Christmas, and my Grinch suit is at the cleaners, so I'll just that that it rhymes with Aunt.

Cookie Lizard, we're starting to sound like Unabomber disciples to the nerds. They can't be deteched, and cavemen can't be assimilated.

Oh well, better go get prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse. It's here already you know - they're disguised as "watch enthusiasts". The only way to tell them apart from normals is the Speedmasters on their wrists.

I always believe smart watches are here to stay. They are neither a Witch threat or Voodoo curse nor a replacement but a wonderful compliment. Get the best of both worlds ,keep abreast of the latest digital trends & stay ahead of the competition[emoji68]

I'd consider a Fossil smart watch if the diameter was smaller...and it looked a little more tasteful...馃

@RegF great feedback, thanks for sharing.

We all know that an Apple "Temple" forum will attract a biased profile of Apple worshipers. I can clearly see people working in tech California selling their Rolexes because they have become pass茅....for the tech "we are the disrupters" ego tripping mindset Rolex might have become a clich茅d symbol of "old business". But who cares? I really think the mechanical watch industry should not waste any energy/$$ trying to convert the nerd tech type to mechanical watch/value appreciation.

I think most women over 30 would still prefer a Cartier tank to an Apple watch for evening wear, but I do agree that the Apple/smartwatch has taken up a relatively empty place as the female GADA wristwatch. But how much does this really impact watch industry revenue?

I have argued for some time that to face the smartwatch marketing hype effectively, the mechanical watch industry needs to put out a marketing message associating the mechanical watch to a state of freedom from the neurotic-always-on-digital-world. I believe the new status symbol is having time for leisure and great experiences with your loved ones. Mechanical watches can be positioned to show that you have intellectual depth so that you don't need to follow the crowd and are sufficiently successful so that you can afford to go periscope down and ignore the digital chaos around you whenever you want to.

Cheers.
