And the IFixit teardown in pictures - almost reminds me of an Archer PDF 馃槈

Don't let "IFixit" works on any of your watches..."a quick twist with a small flathead screwdriver popped the cover off!" Yes indeed, it went sailing across the room by the looks of it!
And some of the terminology used clearly indicates no watchmakers were involved in the making of this video...
Note that they didn't put it back together...I'm guessing that watch is dead now...
Happy owner of a Galaxy S8 and a Vaio Z Flip notebook (Made in Japan) with I7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, Iris 550 graphics and 512GB SSD.馃榾
The way my wife curses with very 馃槨IOS upgrade to her Iphone and IPad馃槨 I prefer to "suffer" with my "disappointing Android/Windows" experience as you put it.馃檮
Am I right in assuming that your almost religious devotion to over hyped Chinese manufactured products means that you will soon be adding one of these to your watch collection some time soon?馃榿
"keep If someone simply must know immediately what has happened with every ping and buzz their phone makes, then I can see these watches being something worthwhile. I don't fall into that camp...

I'm an RHCE, so I got windows out of my life thankfully in 1997, switched to a macbook pro in 2011 or so. If you like slow and unreliable equipment and your under powered laptop being made in Japan is important to you by all means but as an engineer I need to depend on my equipment, and after having to mail my Vaio SZ to Sony for 3 months before becoming a Mac owner and realising 2-3 day turnarounds on hardware repairs should be the norm, I can't accept that level of poor service any longer.
I agree to this point but There is another side and usage of these smart watches as well. they give very powerful health statistics or workout stats. I felt the real need to upgrade as ky Fitbit was not able to provide me all the stats I was looking for for my marathon preparation.
And this side can never be replaced by anything else.
I find it so funny that you assume that my Windows 10 notebook is slow and under powered based on your "recent" experience with Windows in 1997.
FYI I run VMs with complete PLM software setups and 3D CAD model (Navisworks) design review sessions of ship and offshore platform models containing hundreds of thousands of parts with no issues. I have not had one hitch or since I purchased the notebook in 2016. I also use the touch screen functionality with the Vaio Pen to draw diagrams in live meetings with clients or for my notes. I suppose you also have to take along your trusty Ipad to do that sort of stuff?
My wife's Macbook Pro stopped working for no reason...so reliability issues can happen. This is my third top range Vaio Z (all made in Japan...the made in China models do indeed suck) and none have presented problems.
I would certainly refrain from being pretentious and assume performance characteristics of something I do not use or have no personal day to day record of seeing someone else use.
If you want to worship to the Apple "God" go ahead, mate. I suppose it probably gives you some sort of spiritual comfort.

Just as a reminder though, with all the church of apple waffle you go on with, I didn't come on a watch forum and make a thread just to bad mouth other people's choices, that's what you did and the insecurity really is dripping off of all of this.

Mate I'm not basing it on 1997, I have a company issued Windows 10 Dell with much better specs than that and it serves as a monitor stand, just no point using it. Understanding specifications is not pretentious, its basic math my friend, a mere matter of comparing Apple's to Apple's if it were 馃榾

Once again mate, read your own OP and thread title lol
Of course a bit of an exaggeration saying the Samsung Gear is dead, but the recent folding of Pebble and sales drop of the Samsung Gear do show that the imminent collapse of the mechanical watch industry is not going to be motivated by the smartwatch, as some hysterical analysts predicted initially, at least with this current iteration of the smartwatch.
It seems people very easily get offended here!
