Dilemma

Hi people,

I have a bit of dilemma and I would like some input. I have been searching for Speedmaster 'Snoopy' for a long time. Have passed on a couple in the past (regretting that now) and see that their prices are increasing quite a bit. However, I am pretty sure one will cross my path some day for a decent amount.

Anyway, my watch collection gets a bit too big (again) and I find myself NOT wearing a couple of them. You probably know where I am going. However, in the past I have sold quite a few watches as well and most of the time I had some regrets afterwards.

Now, I can go for the quick route which is selling my Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600 from 1996 and get a Snoopy without having to do thing with change money, or I can sell some smaller / cheaper watches I have to increase my 'Snoopy' savings account bit by bit (a few vintage Omega Seamasters, Constellations a Chronoswiss and so on).

What would you do? I don't have the 4-5K Eur to spend right now, with a baby on its way to us. I would like to be able to finance my hobby with my hobby 馃榾

I need to get them out of the safe first. It is actually a cool Constellation, but I have two of them. 1 of them belonged to my grand father who has worn it between 1968 till he passed away in 2011. So roughly 43 years. I have the box, papers, bill... everything. So, I bought a similar one to wear and keep my GF's watch in the safe. However, they are both in the safe. It is a 1968 round model (no pie-pan), onyx stick markers and with a quick set date (hidden crown type). I had it completely overhauled by a qualified watchmaker with a special interest in OMEGA en Zenith. A very nice one imho. The Seamasters are two Calendar models, both gold/stainless steel combination. With a beautiful dial with a tiny 'structure' on it. The Chronoswiss is a Regulateur model, one of the first I believe (1993) with box and papers (signed by Mr Gerd Lang himself).

Anyway, I will get them out of the safe next week and do some pictures. Put them here first up for sale and then on Chrono24. I think this is the way to that Snoopy 馃榾

I will say never sell your Grandfather's watch. No watch can or will ever replace it.

Hi, don't worry, it will be the last one to leave my modest collection. Perhaps I wasn't clear about this one, it is not going anywhere 馃榾 Only the 'back-up' Constellation I bought will be up for sale (I think).

Sell the 'back-up' Connie and the Seamaster. No brainer to me.
You are certainly right about the Snoppy; was not that long ago no one wanted them. They are out there though and one has your name on it.

Glad to hear you won't sell the heirloom. 馃憤

Sell the watches that have the easiest replaceability factor. That way, if you suffer from flipper's regret it won't take a long search to replace them.

Congratulations on your aim mate, good to see you'll soon have someone to pass the Omega's, and APs down to... the Rolex on the other hand... I have to be honest, a 16600 is a good daily watch but compared to your Speedmasters, the 15202, the ROC, and the Constellations, a modern Seadweller is a bit common and ordinary.

I would give some consideration to moving it on, you can ALWAYS find another 16600.

You might be right. I don't know. I never wear it (only during some holidays overseas, the only time you will find me in a swimming pool). A friend of mine wears it some times, or my wife... she likes it but it is too big for her. She has her Explorer 114270 for daily abuse. On the other hand, it is one of the last real Rolex toolwatches and it was my first Rolex. Dilemma! 馃榾

You have to keep your first Rolex, no way to undo that regret.

I like the way you think馃榿

馃槈

Even then I only wore it 3 or 4 days straight when I first got it (before I was active on the forums). I think I've found a reason to wear my new 惟AT nearly every day even if it's only for a few hours. It's been a month long honeymoon that's still going strong. Can't remember being this enamored with any modern watch besides the Malte Grande. 馃ぉ
