Patek owners are stuffy and pretentious...Vacheron owners are sophisticated and self-effacing. Or is it the other way around? I can never get it straight.

No, that’s it exactly...

Rolex is like Ferrari in this way- A lot of wannabes who buy it because its part of the lifestyle. There are also the true enthusiasts who love the brand for all the right reasons. It's all about perspective. The same guy who buys the $300k Ferrari just to drive around town for dinner on Friday and then takes his gold GMT off before going into a pool.

Ultimately why do we care so much? Different strokes for different folks.

Yeah, I just can't get enough of this Rolex vs. Omega discussion. It's the gift that keeps on giving. 🙄

[P.S. I'm aware that I don't have to read it.]

Sorry Dan!!

As you can probably tell I'm pretty new to the watch world.

What's really annoying is that Rolex clearly manipulates their supply to create an artificial shortage, inflating their prices. Even after showing evidence of this to people, they don't seem to mind. I mean an honest, close to 1 million a year, watch producer looks like Omega where you can get just about any watch you want. Contrast that with Rolex, which purportedly produces about the same amount of watches per year, with empty shelves all over the world. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that they're producing nowhere near that many watches.

Oh well ... you're not the first one to do it. We should probably just have a sticky on the topic instead of starting a new thread every few weeks.

It's actually a Lamborghini bonnet, but, hey, they're both Italian.

I was traveling behind a Lamborghini Urus yesterday; first time I've seen one in person. The exhaust sound was amazing! I couldn't see if the driver was wearing a Rolex, but I bet he was 😉

Personally, I like both and enjoy having them. Beyond that, I have little to add to this topic but I just wanted to share this picture. I think it is hilarious what Rolex has become on main street and pop culture.

So what you're saying is that I need to buy my wife a Rolex and wear the hat to bed?

That's what I do. I actually had that hat sewed to my scalp.

Probably one on each arm!

I have both and and they both bring their own qualities to the table.

no one has ever been robbed at gunpoint for their Omega! (likely cause people think your wearing a 6309 seiko diver!)

You know, whenever someone says "has ever been", I do a quick search and find exceptions. It is an annoying personality trait but whatever.

MENLO PARK

Armed robbery: Police are on the lookout for two men in connection with the armed robbery of a pedestrian on O'Keefe Street. The man was walking north on O'Keefe when a black early-2000s Honda Civic sedan pulled up alongside and the driver asked about the location of the nearest gas station, police said. The pedestrian briefly looked down the street and when he turned back, the driver was pointing a black semi-automatic handgun at him. The driver demanded the man's watch – a $3,000 Omega chronograph – and the pedestrian gave it to him, whereupon the driver drove off northbound on O'Keefe. Both men are black, police said. The driver was wearing a dark gray hoodie and had a diamond earring in his left ear. The pedestrian did not provide police with a description of the passenger. Oct. 10.

I have both - both ‘old’ by today’s standards.

I love the ‘tool’ watch era where they were used.

mine get used for swimming/hiking/work/travelling/sleeping/everything.

I don’t like seeing a dive/gmt watch being kept for best dress..
