Difference between Rolex and Omega

I think Omega beats Rolex on movement, accuracy, and value. Rolex are overpriced and overhyped on the internet. Twice MSRP for an illegible Daytona. Not for me.

Yours is the most sensible and logical post defining the difference between the two brands at the moment...

Rolex is what Omega wants to be (corporately).

Customer bases are completely different.

I like the videos on Watchfinder who talk a lot about this rivalry. The summary they give is "Omega makes watches, Rolex sells them"

By the way, if you know of any watch pornography channels that is as mesmerizing as their videos, let me know..

When you think of that, you can understand why there may be a difference in the types of people in both forums.

Not considering variance.

One thing I feel Omega could improve upon is to make slimmer watches. Not the biggest fan of Daytona but have to admit its slimmer case (as opposed to a Speedmaster) is a welcome. Even more so when it comes to GMTs.

I think it's fairly clear that Rolex have rapidly evolved and are not what they were some time ago, and that there is mileage in the comparison between Tudor and Rolex (i.e. that Tudor are currently what Rolex were twenty+ years ago).

Rolex forum is all about look at what I've got, whereas Omega forum is look at my beautiful new watch!!
Oh, we Omega guys like to show off what we've got, too.

I think most luxury watch brands want to be Rolex, but disagree with your comment on customer bases.

Plenty of sub-forums on both here and TRF devoted to other watch brands, collectors seem to value both (and others).

I've been happily banned there 3 times

A bit of odd behavior for someone who clearly likes Omega better than Rolex to begin with don't you think? Unless of course you kept going back simply to break balls which I would completely agree with and understand 😁

I tend to think that ‘customer base’ and forum members and collectors are different. The cheapest omega is roughly half the price of the cheapest Rolex (£4.5k). With many the purchase of a luxury watch is aspirational and thus would only have one. Just look at the percentage of how many forum members there are to number of either Rolex and Omega sold in a year.

Would that by any chance be a C-case constellation you're wearing? 😁

As a kid growing up, all I wanted was a Rolex.
Now I own a Datejust41 and I'm looking to purchase a special watch for my 50th next year. I'm mainly looking at an Omega to mark the occasion, but also other brands all apart from Rolex!!

Just slowly going off the brand as a whole, which is a shame. And think a lot of people are starting to feel the same.....

Yeah, I just can't get enough of this Rolex vs. Omega discussion. It's the gift that keeps on giving. 🙄

[P.S. I'm aware that I don't have to read it.]

What’s better, Patek or Vacheron?

Patek owners are stuffy and pretentious...Vacheron owners are sophisticated and self-effacing. Or is it the other way around? I can never get it straight.
