You guys are killing me! Great story! Have a picture of the coin?
Sorry to derail the thread. I'll have to dig up the coin. I found a pic online of the same one (below). Readily available, I have photo of Pele with my sister. He was always dressed to the nines. Notice watch shot.

and not saying goals are the only metric. and there is a player at his peak vs. the length of that peak. i have never seen a player control a game without scoring like Zidane. no one else is close. at his peak Ronaldinho was something the world has never seen talent wise but it did not last long.

maybe i'm just too young and I never saw Pele, but I'd have to say Pele and Messi are the GOATs but I am sure Maradona is in the top 5
First, RIP DM, you brought the world happiness, and your opponents all applauded you.
Second, I don't think you can ever objectively confirm a GOAT, for all the usual well-understood reasons. But of course we all recognise that Pele, Diego, Cruyff, Zidane, Messi, CR7, are in a league of their own whatever the stats say.
Third, may I chip in one immortal name that maybe none of us ever saw - Alfredo di Stefano. Scored in 5 European Cup finals, and "voted fourth, behind Pelé, Diego Maradona, and Johan Cruyff, in a vote organized by France Football magazine which consulted their former Ballon d'Or winners to elect the Football Player of the [20th] Century". [Thanks, Wikipedia.]

I think the photo needs more explanation. How did your sister end up meeting Pele?

Pele and my aunt dated for a couple of years. He would visit our house in Palos Verdes in a white limo and would bring his guitar and sing in Portuguese. I still a have a gold (fake) Pele coin he gave me. I was around 9 years old, I remember him being a sweet guy. Would take my aunt on shopping sprees in Beverly Hills.
