A lot of dark stories around him but he was and will be the biggest football legend ever (Pelé was active before my time ) In a time when internet, ipad and even computers were far deep in the future, all you needed was a leather made ball and memory of Maradonas last dribble. That was enough motivation to keep kicking the ball all day long and have great fun on the street with actual human beings. And finally, ones you made that trick, it made you feel like a King him self for a moment. For those memories I thank him....and Roberto Baggio, and Rummenigge and Van Basten and Ruud Gulligt and many more. That's what matters for me.

RIP El Diego..🙁

Dont know about foxtrot, but I have seen Maradona, Messi, CR7, Zidane play live and whilst they were all absolutely amazing players, the likes of which we probably wont see again, Diego was head and shoulders ahead of everyone...simply the GOAT.

Wow. That is a shock...can’t ever forget goals against England in 86 World Cup. Utterly bewildering.
Indeed it was mesmerising control of both hand and feet. A troubled soul and legend. Rest in piece

Very cool.

As a 10 year I once played cards with Marco van Basten, Johnny van 't Schip and Robbie Witschge. I was at a skate rink nearby my house. Sjakie Swart, a old winger from Ajax who played with Cruyff and winner of 3 european championships, had a bar there. A friend of mine said Van Basten was playing cards with some friends. I ran to the the bar and suddenly Van Basten took a extra chair and gave me some cards. At the end he gave me his signature which I kept in a book in my room. All my life I played with number 12 (the number with which Van Basten played the european championship in 1988). That signature is still in one of the books in my parents house. One day I will see that signature again. Of course Van Basten played for Milan when Maradona played for Napoli. All legends

My father in-law was a professional footballer and played against Pele in the '69 Olympics, to this day he says Pele is the OG #10 and GOAT. Pele was before my time, but Maradona captured the essence of being a great player while not having the best physical attributes. It was his heart and ferocious competitiveness that brought out the best in him. Many athletes are born with tremendous physical capabilities but don't reach their potential, Maradona was truly gifted in a different way.

i think Maradona was a lot about the legend, the hard charging life, and the legendary goals

not to start a debate but there is just no comparison between the #10s who scored close to a goal a game (pele, messi) and maradona (1/3 goal per game)

that said. . maybe maradona scored a goal per game when sober LOL

a true legend no denying it

and not saying goals are the only metric. and there is a player at his peak vs. the length of that peak. i have never seen a player control a game without scoring like Zidane. no one else is close. at his peak Ronaldinho was something the world has never seen talent wise but it did not last long.

maybe i'm just too young and I never saw Pele, but I'd have to say Pele and Messi are the GOATs but I am sure Maradona is in the top 5

It was a pleasure to watch this guy. Whenever he had the ball there was a chance that something special was about to happen. He was a match winner.
RIP.

Safe passage, maestro. Within team sport in my lifetime, I haven't witnessed another athlete have such a galvanising effect on his pedestrian team(s) (with the possible exception of Michael Jordan). Maradona won a World Cup largely on his own, narrowly missed out on another and completely transformed the unfashionable Napoli during his peak years. The fact that he was as high as a kite, living large, politically literate and fouled off the pitch the entire time just reinforces his legend for me.

If you haven’t yet seen it, watch Maradona in Mexico (netflix?). Just incredible. I recommend watching in Spanish with subtitles as US VO is dreadful. It’s a 6-part documentary about his time as Manager of a Mexican soccer team down on their luck and the best sports documentary I have ever seen.

Meanwhile, a tribute from our UK friends North if the border who awarded Maradona the title of Scottish Footballer of the Year 1986

I saw him at the San Siro stadium "live in concert" ... Yes, his left foot is comparable to Hendrix's left hand
GOAT
nothing more to be said

Pele and my aunt dated for a couple of years. He would visit our house in Palos Verdes in a white limo and would bring his guitar and sing in Portuguese. I still a have a gold (fake) Pele coin he gave me. I was around 9 years old, I remember him being a sweet guy. Would take my aunt on shopping sprees in Beverly Hills.
