Wow, that’s a terrible experience!
Many things might have happened but the lack of answer from the buyer does really look bad!
I don’t see how he could think of keeping some rep/trust here while staying silent… :/

How big is the loss?

He only ever made contact via PM to me and others. (Here is the message he sent me early on.)

Yes, I got the same excuse - you would think if the OP was going to "dox" him, he would have done so by now, so as time goes by this reasoning gets weaker and weaker in my view.

I asked him to explain how someone sending him an empty box before he paid, was a scam - he's never answered that question.

For @dmtowl to claim they "love being apart of these watch communities", they really are going out of their way to prove otherwise by actively ignoring this thread for 4 months. You would think they would want to clear their name instead of creating a flimsy excuse to stay silent. 😕

I guess he feels that not doing so isn’t going to cost him, because he sells in other places. It really is odd though, not to care about your reputation like this...

I stand by my original message in the thread. I don't believe I owe it to the entire forum to air out fabricated drama (that took place off forum) for everyone to see. I could go make a new account and start making up stories about other members too with no evidence. Tomas left out a lot of key details here and also how they have sent many harassing and threatening messaging to me, post scam failure.

I lost the ability to post in the FS section now, please do not buy or sell to me if you believe this person, or distrust me. I think its interesting how someone can make a brand new account here, start accusing someone of something, and so many of you are taking their side, just because I'm not fervently posting in here spilling all the details of this very negative experience. Maybe you guys would handle this situation more directly than I have, but I'm choosing to not engage with a scammer/harasser and have privately explained a bit more to some forum members I am closer to.

I stand by my love of this community and the friends I've made here.

P.S. I've made multiple successful purchases from trusted members on here since this supposed debacle, with 0 issues and nothing but smiles all around.

Reading through this as a newer member but who has bought & sold a few watches on other platforms, what surprises me is shipping the watch without payment. Is this normal? I’ve not heard of a transaction with post shipment payment.
No, this is not normal. What kind of seller is ecstatic about shipping a watch out to someone (who they've never transacted before) BEFORE payment? This was a huge red flag to me and made me inquire deeper into the financial information (for transaction) they sent me.

P.S. Sorry for the spam. Just wanted to address a few things in here. I don't mind if you all don't believe me, or about restoring my access to the FS Section.

If you don’t care, I won’t either. But as much as you say the OP’s behaviour is unusual, recognize that yours is as well.

You keep calling the OP a scammer, but again how is it a scam to send an empty box to you, when you haven’t paid him anything yet? If you could explain that, it might clear all this up...

Sorry, my words were crafted a bit ill there. I do want to clear my name and respect your inquiry. I could have handled it better but there was a lot going on in my life recently and I did not prioritize clearing my name here. Heres my explanation:

1. I inquired for a watch this person had for sale on instagram
2. In the middle of negotiating, they asked for my shipment info, which I provided.
3. While I was working out payment, they said they shipped out a watch, and provided a link for tracking. I did not ask for shipment prior to payment (unusual) and protested against this, but they were insistent on shipping it out quickly.
4. This gave me a red flag, a new person that had no reason to trust me, or me them, was so ready to insist they shipped the watch, and pressed for payment quickly.
5. Upon calling my bank when I got an error for the payment processing, they told me the bank (was international) flagged some warnings on their end and they wanted me to verify the transaction - they put it on hold.
6. I asked the seller to provide proof that they actually owned and shipped the watch they were advertising. They had none.
7. Around this time, the package arrived devoid of watch (full of stuffing/paper) very quickly since they used DHL. I opened it and realized this was a scam attempt.
8. The user then spammed me with messages asking me where payment was, etc. and started sending threatening messages to me. When things turned sour and non-constructive, I blocked them.
9. Cue the user making numerous accounts on reddit, IG, anywhere I am on threatening me for payment and saying they will do whatever they can to take me down if I dont pay them the full amount. (IMO - Angry that the scam attempt failed and then trying to character assassinate on the forums I am active on as "payback")

Details may be a bit fuzzy since it was a few months ago, but this is a gist of the summary.

You could actually do a couple of clear/uncut screenshot of the messages between you and the seller and clear things up fyi.

Like, any sane/logical adult would.

My 2 cents.

Such negativity and name calling, and for what reason? Did me not replying to this thread personally offend you that much?

I mentioned this to the people I explained privately to, when things got hostile (threatening my family etc.), I blocked them and deleted the chat. I did not think that I would have to prove anything to anyone in the future and wanted to get that negativity out of sight, thats my 2 cents

Why would you delete a thread that corroborates your story in a contentious back and forth? Blocking him, ok... but you deleting it did nothing for him and only shot yourself in the foot if your story is correct. Strange.

I was at a really negative time in my life, and was trying to remove all sources. I agree, the fact that I deleted them does not help my case at all. But, Like I mentioned, I did not expect to have to provide evidence on my case, on a completely unrelated website/forum, months later. I thought that ignoring the scammer would solve the problem, but should have been more proactive.
