Dial restoration question (and mvmt question) - Certina DS Pie Pan

Hello everyone,

I have a dial restoration question. I know this topic tends to bring out some tensions amongst watch collector ^^

One of my current watch goal is to purchase a nice Certina DS Pie Pan. I’d like one in good condition, as most of them are often very used / with a lot of patina.

I found an example whose Dial looked quite nice (sorry for the picture I don’t have better resolution for now) if not in very good condition, but far from perfect.

Far from perfect, because as you can see there is some kind of…lets’ say mole…right in the middle of it. The case itself is way too polished and the crown is - as it often is with Certina - the wrong one.

My question is the following : is there a way of getting rid of this mole via a "dial restoration of some sort" ?
I’d say no but I’d like to be sure and ask the community. (I asked my watchmaker who said nothing could be done)

I know I'm asking a lot and the dial is still in rather good condition overall. But it's worth a shot 😉

Other funny thing and other question ==> when I bought it, the dial was mounted on a 26-65 movement instead of a 25-45. I asked my watchmaker to put this very dial on a 25-45 I had. He tried and told me it didn’t fit on the 25-45 movement…and the 25-66 was probably the right one.

As anybody ever seen a Pie Pan on another movement than 24-45 (except for the rare Manual pie pan) ?

Thank you very much 😁

In principle, someone could try to touch up that spot with paint to make it a little less prominent, but very few people are willing to try because it will always be visible and most likely you won't be happy with it. Personally, if I can't live with the dial, I don't buy the watch, unless I'm just looking for parts.

Overall, I don't find that watch particularly appealing. The stain in the middle of the dial is distracting, and the case is not in good condition. I'm not sure what is attracting you to this watch, TBH. If you are looking to add a good example of this reference to your collection, you should probably just keep looking patiently.

I agree with you totally.
Tbh I bought the watch just for the dial, that I thought I could put on a good condition case with the right crown.
But the flaw was not visible on the picture unfortunately...anyway it was a cheap buy so no regrets.
