Just checking in with my newest find, a companion to the family of Genéves. A quickset 565 Admirality with a grey? dial. Another one of those where the seller had no clue, so it was a risky yet very satisfying find. A reference 166.038 case which still looks nice and sharp. Claimed to be purchased in Berlin in the 1960's. How true that is I don't know.

Here are a few iPhone snaps:

I haven't done much but lightly polished the crystal, it will need some serious buffing as I I want to keep the original one, so excuse any marks you may see, they're in fact only on the crystal, the dial is near perfect. Original crown. Maybe even springbars.

Here's the twins:

Some new shots, including the movement to follow, this little sucker is screwed up tight!! 😀

Edit: I have got a blue/grey NATO strap for this but I feel it deserves more, but it's a difficult one to place. Being neither a sports nor dress watch, well, not a serious contender... I welcome any suggestions. I even tried a black croc strap and it looked quite nice!

👍 Nice pair!

If it has quickset via push / pull of the crown it's a 565. The 564 was a chronometer.

Update

Just had a few pictures back after crystal polish, and regulating as the movement is in lovely shape. It is a cal. 565. Probably one of my best buys this year! Superb watch. 😀

That one looks to be in great condition, Alex 👍
Thank you, John. It's always a worry when you "buy blind" so to speak. It was a hunch, judging by the overall condition of the exterior of the watch. It doesn't always turn out that way, mind, But I can sleep sound now! 👍

Thanks Ed! May I say, so have you lately! 👍 I'm trying to keep to a theme now, but like most of us, something can just pop up out of the blue, and bang, you've changed directions! 😗

Not this side of the pond, these were never sold over here.

It appears to have "weighed anchor"?

I think your 'spider watch sense' has developed so you can distinguish polished vs sharp case with closed eyes 😉

Or

Or , to be clearer, where is the anchor?

Not sure of the reason, but some don't have an Anchor.
