Hi. This is just an idea and I am thankful to have support from @gbesq and @JwRosenthal if I take this further. Some help from a Metro Detroit member would be welcome also.

Proposed date. Early Fall

Some locations to discuss.

1) Dearborn. It’s close to the airport and to the amazing Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.

2) Downtown Detroit. Close to the Detroit Institute of Arts, theatres, and sports stadiums. This area has improved significantly in the last few years.

3) Troy or Birmingham. Northern suburbs close to shopping malls.

4) Area proposed by a Detroit area OF member.

5) Windsor. Huge hotels directly across from downtown Detroit.

6) London Ontario. City of 500 000 halfway between Toronto and Detroit, in case there is more interest from Canadian members than from the US.

I know the Detroit area quite well and my choice would be Dearborn if there is strong interest from out of town.

Please share your thoughts and we can decide on the next steps.

GBesq and JW. Jump in as much as you want with comments and suggestions. Thanks.

Remember, you won’t be able to bring that chowder over the border. This will leave you sitting on a bench in the Hooters parking lot with nice people, but no chowder.

Count me out on anything USA. I don’t have a passport, and the way things are above the 49th, it is unlikely I’d be able to get one if I applied tomorrow. As Pierre Poilievre ( our next prime minister) has said, “Canada doesn’t need a government that wants to run our lives, but a government that can run a passport office!”

Don’t be discouraged if things start slowly. The first Mid-Atlantic G2G in 2021 had 6 attendees and 3 of those were the organizers! 2022 saw our attendance nearly triple to 17 and we’re expecting another increase in attendance when we do it again this year. If you’ve read Steve’s post, are within reasonable commuting distance of Detroit, and are on the fence about attending, by all means GO! It’s a chance to actually meet some of those people who you correspond with online, make new friends, see and handle some spectacular watches, and maybe even buy or sell one or two. It’s a really worthwhile event. Steve, let me know when you have a firm date and location. If my schedule permits, I’m always up for an adventure and Detroit isn’t far by plane!

I would be very interested in a Detroit GTG since my work is based out of the DTW airport. I commute from Cincinnati, OH to Detroit, MI via my amazing 2007 Ford Police Interceptor…so I’m mobile when I’m in the Detroit area. I would need to know the date of the GTG before the 11th of the month prior to the month of the GTG so I can bid for it off and coordinate it with my work schedule.

LATE ENTRY: DOH! I see that the proposed date is 23SEP23…plenty of heads-up…so I’ll bid for that before 11AUG23 and it should be good.

ANOTHER LATE ENTRY: @flw and I had a Detroit area GTG back in May of 2022…it was pretty cool…and we did a Ford/BMW GTG at the same time…because we have technologies…

As @Mad Dog just wrote… still a long way to go to September, but I will certainly keep an eye out for your proposals and plans!

I am in, unless out of the country. My wife was musing about a vacation around that time. Heck the vacation isn't booked so it can move too.

Indeed, Chris Mann’s “Time For A Pint” built slowly and steadily. Was fortunate to be in London for one of the early events. He put a lot of persistence and work into getting this going. Need to get a Chicago GTG group started again.

We had 3 wives and a brother at the Mid Atlantic GTG, all were wearing awesome watches and had a great time. There are some insanely beautiful vacation destinations in Michigan- good time of year for it too….just a thought.

I am still kicking myself in the ass for my last minute cancellation of the last mid-Atlantic GTG. I plan to be at the next.

Well, I have to attend now to make sure that Mad Dog is taking proper care of my former 861 Speedy. 😉

I'll try to make the trip with my box of Invictas if I can get my car fixed in time.
