Had my first Omega, a Speedmaster date, for a long time. A few years back I dropped it and dented the bezel on the left hand side (9 o’clock). Just wondering if anyone had suggestions....leave it, fix it?
Just curious have you looked into your options. I have a similar one but the black dial. Tbh if it happened to mine I’d like to repair it but I wouldn’t know where to begin
TBH, the whole watch looks quite well-used. I don't think the dent really stands out. But it's really up to you. I imagine that Omega could replace the bezel.
I say leave it, wait for it to become much worse (the entire bezel) and then maybe replace. Unless you like your watches to have some character, and in that case just leave it. If you’re on the other side of the spectrum i.e like your watches to be perfect then go ahead and replace it, the part should be available.
Looks to me like a bezel insert replacement and you're good as new. I'd taken into an Omega AD that has a good watchmaker and see what they say. An AD can get the right OEM part, and should be able to do the job for a reasonable price.
Keep it but come up with a good story. example: "Oh this ding? Well, during my NASA training..........."
Show it to a watchmaker. Under 100 bucks, go for it (and let me know the name of said watchmaker.) Over three hundred, "...dented it base jumping...)
Omega doesn't sell bezel inserts. In this case it's the bezel portion that is damaged. The whole thing would require replacing - about $200 for the bezel, plus labour of course. This watch is different than other Speedmasters, as the bezel holds the crystal, so when you remove the bezel the crystal comes off as well. Omega would likely require a full service for this, so I would wait until you need that done before getting this part fixed. Cheers, Al
I say dent it more, adds character - the majority of Speedmasters have pretty used up bezels, people don't seem to care much
I feel like this is one of those things that only the owner notices. And you probably feel like it sticks out like a sore thumb, but unless you take the watch off and hand it to a guy who is finicky about watches, no one will ever notice it even if sitting right across from you at high noon enjoying coffee/tea/pint. Wear it with pride, try to forget about it and address it the next time the watch is due for a full service.
