Dropped the watch off at the dealer on the way home this evening. They will receive the new replacement speedy on Friday (unfortunately I won’t be able to pick it up until Sunday).

Thanks for all the replies encouraging me to get a replacement, I feel much better about doing so.

I’m aware that the hesalite will scratch and I’m ok with that (I have a Merci LMM-1 from France with a Perspex crystal that is prone to scratching). I was just surprised to see a scratch on the front of the lug.

The case isn’t very scratch prone, the hesalite definitely is. Get yourself a tube of Polywatch is you don’t have it already. Also, if you decide to change straps you will find it easy to put marks on the back of the lugs.

I got a call from the AD this afternoon, my replacement watch arrived one day early so I was able to pick it up after work. They had left it in the plastic coffin (which they let me keep) and gave me the time to inspect it very carefully under a loupe. The watch is perfect and I am over the moon with happiness at owning this classic!

Thanks to all who replied to my inquiry, looking forward to adding my photo to the show me your speedy pro thread!

What did they do at the shop, throw it against the wall before sending it off.
Hope new model is pristine.
There it is, very nice. Speedmaster is sexy beast regardless of year.

Big lesson here is always carefully inspect the watch before leaving the store, scratches can occur anytime a watch is handled. I've seen some shocking 'new' watches in dealer's showcases. They seem to be a bit better now than in the past but every shop takes all their watches out of the showcases each evening and sometimes this is done carelessly and stuff happens. In an ideal world the AD would have inspected that watch before delivering it to the buyer, but there are buyers who don't care so the dealer often won't say anything and hopes the buyer accepts it. Glad it worked out and you got a pristine watch.

...They had left it in the plastic coffin...
👍

and that's the only way everyone should expect and demand --something I clearly state when ordering a new watch, I expect to be the one removing all the protective materials, stickers, bags, ties, etc for the first time... the only articles I want prep before delivery are my cars... 😀

Do you not think ADs expect their new stock to make sure all is OK before viewing though?

Sure, they can inspect their new stock before they are placed in their show case/window - but when ordering watches (meaning these are not on display) I want them handed to me just as the manufacturer packed them - does that make sense?

congrats glad it got fixed. Did they send back the original or they going to buff out the scratch and maybe sell it at a discount?

Others may have said this, but in case not, the presentation box comes in a cardboard box and it is separate from the watch. ADs often have these in stock even when the wat leg is out of stock. The watch comes from Omega in a clear plastic coffin box with the warranty and pictogram cards and the hang tag. The watch should be in its own plastic sleeve and should be stickered when new.

That’s how my replacement watch came.
