I have one from the early 2000s. It has an excellent movement. Perhaps the best chronograph movement today.

The dial is too shiny and busy. If they would just make it more utilitarian, matte, and simple. It is near impossible to glance at it to quickly register the time.

I'd like to see one of the new ones in person before I make a call.

Yea the silver concentric subdials really are pretty crummy readability wise but they do look pretty cool under lights. The new design is a big step forward in that respect, echoing the old school Zenith Daytona subdials.

I'm probably the only one who doesn't see anything spectacular in these Daytona's... Except their price! I'll stick to my proletarian second-class watches.

I'm with you. The whole look is a bit overwrought for my tastes; subdials, hands, indices, pushers... the lot.

Edit: on the bright side, at least it doesn't have a cyclops!

If there is hope, it lies in the Proles.

EDIT: thanks for the avatar / message inspiration.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. It seems this new Daytona is hit or miss for most folks. Appeals to many as it shows signs of vintage, and hurts others eyes as it may look gaudy. For me, its the appeal of an older Daytona, for a fraction of the price.. At least the white dial version. I love my vintage chrono's, but this will be the next modern watch I purchase.

I think these are pretty interesting pieces. Every thread I read about them somebody mentions the Millgauss price explosion / tanking and every time I read it I think "Man, I should really pick up one of those Green crystal Millgauss, $5k is pretty reasonable." so I do enjoy that part of the new Daytona.

I just can't bring myself to like that black bezel. Rolex has Invictized the Daytona.

Well, if they've "Invictised" it then it really is for the bloke with the small dick....

I like the black bezel, but it's a bit too "precious" looking for me. The ones who's looks I like, I can't justify buying.

I did find one pre-owned already being sold for $11K. Not sure if it's for real.

Scam, I heard 2x retail is the going rate.

The silly premium appears to have started ticking down a little bit... still silly though. A couple have started popping up at around the $17-$19k range over on TRF. Decent enough looking watch but at too high a price in my opinion.

...Daytona is a mass produced steel watch that every man and his dog has.
D@mmit, must have missed the Daytona hand-out day at OF...

I have a dog and I'm a man for heaven's sake, so I should have 2 by now! I don't even have half of that... 😉

If someone picked up mine by mistake, kindly send a PM and I'll gladly pay for first class overnight shipment.

Prices are starting a little bit of a downward trend. Recently saw a couple go in the $16k range and now one has popped up for $15.5k. Personally, I am not willing to really go above retail but this gives me some hope! Maybe around the end of the year we could see them for around retail pricing?

You will be able to get these. It not like the Zenith movement days where they had constrained production due to availability of movements. The Millgauss had production issues and Rolex still refers to the green dial as a limited edition. It like the Hulks they will keep selling as long as thier is demand.

There has not been a Daytona waiting list for years now but yet that myth still abounds.

Really? Certainly a list at the AD in the UK.

Well of course there is a list on a watch that accepted pre orders on a new watch and is ramping up production

There was a waiting list at ADs for daytonas even before the new ceramic was announced. You must be living in a special part of the world of you claim there has not been a waiting list for years.
