Not shocking. Very similar to what happens with some sports cars too; you see ads in some magazines like "2017 this-or-thats coming in soon! $(huge markup) call so-and-so"

The Rolex people can keep this thing though. I find it unattractive

It'll be high, many people fail to remember the Milgauss GV's briefly hit close to 30K due to initial production issues of the green crystal before tanking back down to $5300 or so used. A fool and his money so they say.

I can't even view that page on TRF even when logged in, apparently I'm not a "Pledge member" so I can't view it.

Same here. Those Rolex guys need to lighten up a little.

I think the listing was already removed. You can see it on watchrecon.com if you search for daytona. Hmm The other thread was just a guy who has his already.. here's some photos. All owned by that user..

You will be able to get these. It not like the Zenith movement days where they had constrained production due to availability of movements. The Millgauss had production issues and Rolex still refers to the green dial as a limited edition. It like the Hulks they will keep selling as long as thier is demand.

There has not been a Daytona waiting list for years now but yet that myth still abounds.

Actually 18k seems to be a reasible price if it's going to be very limited numbers a year and there is a 5 year waiting list on it.

Not going to happen, that was only the case during the years they had Zenith movements in them and Zenith only gave them a limited number a year of modified El Premiero movements. They are an inhouse movements now, amd there has not been a waiting list for years since about 2000. I read this in a few places, and then talked to a more then a few local Rolex dealers including the local Rolex Boutique, they all had one of most versions or could get one in less then a month and concurred that there was no longer a waiting list, but some AD's still played that game.

Sure this new one will be limited by demand at first, but it is not going to be hard to source new like the 1988-2000 watches.

Right now there are 4 platinum daytonas for sale local to me. Granted the prices on those are a bit steep.

Not sure if you're kidding or not but its not "very limited" at all and the bulk of the "5 year waiting list" is speculators or would be if they could be's mixed in with a bit of dealer's telling lies.

My brother's two daytonas were both bought during the height of the demand after the 4130 based model was released and in both cases they were easy to get in the end. The first one took a couple of months and fell to him after 20 or so pikers either didn't have the cash or the motivation and the second, his wife just walked in with cash and asked really nicely.

A Patek 5970 - that was very limited, a Daytona is a mass produced steel watch that every man and his dog has.

I don't know where you're based Foo but there's always been a waiting list in England. If you go to one of the larger AD's they are quoting 5 years, a smaller AD quotes about 8 months.
I was in the Rolex boutique in Orlando's Mall of Millenia last week so I thought I'd enquire as to the waiting list for the new Daytona and they aren't taking any more orders as he said it would take them over 10 years to fill there current waiting list.

Still isn't worth double RRP to me but might be to someone else.

Exactly what he said. Daytona list are shut. Each AD will get about 5 a year a bigger AD account will get 9 a year. Now you can do the math. If your name is not in the first 5 to 8 numbers then your looking few years. So the price at 18k is cheap considering if you don't have your name up on the top then good luck getting one.

Which model do you want from last year? The new one will have a list as they ramp production up and demand is high but all the non gold ones are sitting at the Rolex AD near me and the Rolex boutique. They are both gunshy with pictures of thier cases as one was robbed in the last year and the other a few years back. I'll double check which ones have it and get you thier number.

SF boutique is full already and trust me I called around and my personal AD the I had my name #1 they won't be getting a lot of Daytona every year. And that is how strong Rolex control the Daytona demand.

Comparing vintage and modern Daytonas just reminds me why modern Speedmaster Pros look so classic.

Gotta say those watches look like "Hey look at me, I've got a small dick!"

Really? How exactly is a comment like this called for? So much for the oft-said "taste is personal preference".

Also harsh words from someone who wanted to write a collective online romantic fluff piece with a bunch of dudes... And included the following self description, "I look good in a suit. Handsome almost. I've got the shoes, the suit, the watch...".

I do not own a Daytona, I am not on any waiting list, but I find it to be a very nice looking chrono. I don't like many of the current and recent Daytonas Rolex has put out, but to each their own.

I also am not crazy about the standard Speedy, but I know that many guys are, so good for them also. IMO, No need to throw down such a harsh criticism. If you don't like the watch, don't buy it. No need to question anyone's manhood for liking or wearing a watch that is an iconic and very popular cultural piece.

It was a joke...

I never said "I look good in a suit. Handsome almost. I've got the shoes, the suit, the watch..." as a self-description.

Chill...
