I say, partner with these two women by subsidizing their business, and in return, adding the little Omega symbol at the top of their clocks.

They look like heroes; Rolex looks like villains.
I would definitely buy such a clock - even though I don't have young children

Since Omega did the MoonSwatch, they’re clearly not beneath pushing some boundaries. I say, partner with these two women by subsidizing their business, and in return, adding the little Omega symbol at the top of their clocks.

They look like heroes; Rolex looks like villains. And we have so many future possible Forum participants…

I would buy that clock just on principe- and buy another to donate to a school. In fact I will see how I can support this company.

Rolex is fυcking scum- I don’t care about the legality of defending their branding- they knew exactly what they were doing here and clearly don’t care about the optics.

And anyone who is currently on a waiting list and is disgusted by this behavior- please tell your AD exactly why you are removing your name from the list. Hopefully it will happen en mass and the word will trickle up that this is a bridge too far

I just shared this story with my wife (and the petition) and this was her reply:

“fυck Rolex and the palm fronds they rode in on”

Maybe they can call that collaboration the "Omega Oyster MoonPop" 😁

I think the optics are terrible for Rolex - …..This is a perfect example how to fυck up PR. Instead of going after them, they should offer to subsidize their efforts in some way. So instead of looking like a company people can feel good about, they reinforce every negative Rolex-buyer stereotype.

My thoughts, exactly. Sure, The Church of Our Wilsdorf of Perpetual Waitlists is touted for great marketing over the years. Then there are colossal bed shits like this to make me shake my head at their inexcusable tone deafness. Brand alignment is everything and this screams amateur hour.

Here's a thought. Maybe Rolex should be going after unscrupulous ADs who sell their wares to grays out the back door, instead of little guys like Oyster Pop who don't hurt them at all.

Nothing is likely to change. The bottom line is that Rolex has no incentive to alter its business practices because those practices have worked spectacularly well for … Rolex.

I just bought one of these clocks for my kids. Hopefully the publicity drives up their sales and they can weather the storm. Take your palm fronds and cram it up your cramhole Rolex.

So far, 10 minutes 😁. Should be here Monday.
No way of confusing the two companies considering that kind of customer service.

Anybody remember the "United Breaks Guiitars" public relations debacle with United Airlines? One can only hope that Rolex gets a similar comeuppance at some point.

I think you underestimate the amount of shallow and trendy stuffed shirts there are in the world. For sure Rolex doesn't.

I heard about this for the first time recently from an email newsletter I get. After screwing the guy out of his money for years there wasn’t much comeuppance for United. They finally relented and offered him some money for the guitar after all the negative press. At that point he refused the money and told them to donate it to a children's music charity. Which they did. It’s an interesting story. The guy turned the whole thing into a net positive and his guitar was actually replaced for free by Taylor because they aren’t assholes like United.

This isn't anything new, some companies go overboard protecting their products, call it 'Lawyers Gone Wild'. Monster Cable, who invented the premium audio cable concept in the early 80's, went crazy with anything named 'Monster' even when there was no way anyone would confuse the product with a Monster cable product. Cookies, mini-golf and many others were all slapped with trademark infringement lawsuits. They finally admitted about 15 years ago that maybe they were a little too aggressive and pretty much gave up the fight to focus on their businesses. Now we have Monster Energy drink who do the same thing, use of the word Monster will get you a trademark infringement lawsuit. Try to sell a Monster hamburger and see what happens. And about 30 years ago Harley-Davidson tried to trademark the sound of its engines, per the trademark application, “The Mark Consists of the exhaust sound of applicant’s motorcycles, produced by V-Twin, common crankpin motorcycle engines when the goods are in use.” This was when the Japanese makers were entering the US market with their own V-Twin engine motorcycles, and American Polaris was jumping in, too. H-D was pretty well mocked for the idea and the application was denied.

The bigger the name the more they want to protect their name and trademarks but it's often very foolish looking to the public. We live in a litigious society. Rolex is just another company going a little bit overboard protecting their name.

If it had been Rolex instead of United, they would have sued him for slander, kicked a puppy and clubbed a baby seal on their way into the court room.
