M.M. & Co. - Goliath Omega ?

Hi all - first time post, so please be gentle !
I have recently bought this watch/clock - the dial is marked M.M.& Co.
I at first thought it was an early car clock.
The front bezel is a bayonet fitting.
When this is removed the movement is wound at 12 o'clock through the dial and the hands set directly with the same key.
Movement and dial are approx. 61mm diameter.
Having done a bit of Googling the only reference I can find relating to the company is to Omega Goliath watches which seem to share the same or similar movements ??
Can anyone shed any light on M.M.&Co or any connection with Omega ?
Very many thanks

Movement looks like a variant of a 27''' 8-D L 17P, but modified for front winding/setting.

Maybe a ship's deck clock?

Thanks Jim - It does indeed look like that movement.
With that info I can find a previous thread about an unusual gimballed early Omega with the same movement where Omtom does indeed mention a front wind version through the dial....

"No, it’s not key-wound. The OP offered this yesterday:

‘Its not key wound. It has a round knob under the 6 to wind it up’

If it were key wound, we would see it: there were some key-wound versions (especially after this version) with the key through the case-back, directly onto the barrel. There were also (very few) key-wound versions (for autos) with the key through the dial(!).

But in this case, both the winding and setting will be through the ‘round knob’ he mentions (which is why I said this movement was ‘stem-set’ and not ‘pin-set’.

Actually, the movement itself is quite standard: it’s the gimballed case that’s unusual (one-off?)."

Thread here : https://omegaforums.net/threads/antique-omega-ship-desk-cronometer.61802/

What interests me is why its not marked Omega in any way ? Could it be very early ??

Hello Steve and welcome. Well-researched!

I agree with Jim’s movement ID. And your search which picked up my comment in that 2017 thread shows that you have exactly what I was referring to (‘key-wound version for autos with the key through the dial’).

Omega made thousands of these 8-day ‘Goliaths’, both 27’’’ and 30’’’ (from 1894 to 1926) with all sorts of variations - but not many of the version you have. I would guess that yours would date about 1906. They were not signed Omega until later. I would expect that the movement (with hands and dial) left the factory as we see it and it was then cased locally (probably in UK).

Of course it didn’t have to appear in a car, it could have been in a boat (or a balloon! I believe some of these were). The movement number will be under the dial - but it won’t help much to date it (as explained in that other thread) because the dating was done by case number (and this isn’t an Omega case).

Thank you @OMTOM - thats really most helpfull info. Never thought of it being in a balloon !
Do you have any idea who M.M.&Co were ? Their name also appears on Omega Goliaths made with the light facility at the 12 o'clock position - it doesn't seem like a later retailers details ?
