Thanks guys! The superluminova doesn’t patina, which I’m kind of concerned about. I love the patina on the tritium. Are the tritium hands/dials now commanding premium prices?

The 1990s tritium Speedies, 3950 and 3750 are still good value in my opinion. If you just want a good late tritium Speedmaster and don’t need box, papers, provenance or other paraphernalia there are definitely affordable watches out there. For now. Probably a good time to buy.

These fall in the 3k to 4k range?

Not sure on exact pricing on these. I paid less than $3k a year and a half ago for a head only 3950 that needed a full service but had a sensational dial and hand set.

    I need some advice guys.

I’m also looking at purchasing a daily wearer Speedy - would I be a fool to buy a brand new one?

No, we are all different. Some of us like unboxing a brand new watch. Other don’t care if it’s used and save some money. I personally belong to the last category.

My thoughts are that I would love a watch that is guaranteed to have not been polished/opened and messed with.

I don’t think I have the knowledge yet to confidently buy a used one.

My 2254 was bought off a family member, so although that was used - I knew it’s history.

Well, it depends on what you mean with used. Are we talking vintage I agree that you have to be very careful. But if you have a 5-10 year old one in mind then you should be able to find one with known history when it comes to service. As usual you have to buy the seller as well as the watch.

I’d be looking for a 1-2 year old one, Max. If I was going to venture down the used route.

I rotate quite a few but my Ed White is pretty much my daily wearer.

I've worn all of my Speedmasters on daily basis.
Currently, wearing a different watch every day, so less daily now. 145.022-69.

It really depends upon what you want. Modern or vintage? Traditional Moonwatch or limited edition? Hesalite or sapphire? Solid or display case back? Fold over or push button clasp? Etc., etc., etc. My personal pick for an everyday Speedy is a 3590.50. It’s the last of the tritium Speedmaster models, has a caliber 861 movement, and the 1479/812 bracelet is sturdy, fully brushed and has a vintage look with a fold over clasp. With some work and a little luck, you can still find nice examples for about 4k USD and I think that they will appreciate nicely in value as time goes by.

I have 2 for daily wear one of which is the new 3861, I wanted one that was fully water resistant and that could be sent back to Omega for a full refresh with no worries about vintage parts. So IMO its a valid option IF you dont mind paying a small premium for the stepped dial.

My other daily wearer is a 145-022.69 that I had the pushers, crown, and crystal replaced so it would pass a pressure test. I dont wear it on days I expect to get wet, I go with the new one then, but I dont fear a splash while washing my hands like some of my other vintage pieces.

New 3861, or later but still new 1861, is my vote for daily wear just because you can wear it without as much fear and send it to Omega whenever needed without worrying about reducing the value. Its nice when Omega Service is a plus instead of a minus for daily wear. (IMO YMMV)

Both 1861's. One on steel one on a Nato. Serviceable tool watches with water resistance and good lume. Boring...I know.

    Just one? Impossible.

A speedmaster from each decade I have lived.
